BMHS sweeps Silver Stage

After having a week off early in the season, the Battle Mountain High School softball team got back to business with three impressive wins at Silver Stage this past weekend. The Lady Longhorns swept a doubleheader on Friday 22-3 and 16-1 and won the finale on Saturday 29-9 to improve to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the Northern 2A.

Pershing County track and field competes in Smitty Invitational

Six members of the Pershing County High School track team competed at Wooster High School last weekend. It was the Mark Smith ("Smitty") Invitational. 

Pershing County softball sweeps doubleheader against Incline

The Pershing County High School softball team's winning streak stretched to five games this past weekend.  They hosted Incline for a doubleheader, and toppled their guests twice (16-1, 15-0).  The Mustangs will travel to Incline Village on Tuesday, Apr. 4, for the third game of the series. The Mustangs now stand at 6-2 overall, and 2-0 in the 2A Northern league. On Tuesday, March 21, Lovelock hosted Silver Stage. Results were not available at press time.  Coach Jordan McKinney can't say enough about her team.

Monster Mash

It may be the middle of March but the monsters were out in full force this past weekend at the Winnemucca Event Center. Winnemucca Monster Trucks drew a full house of all ages on Friday and Saturday night, as  the trucks performed stunts and raced each other around the course. Fans got a chance to get a close up with the trucks and go for rides as well.   

Bucks split with Hawks, Panthers

After finalizing where they were going to play this past weekend, the Lowry High School baseball team found itself in Fallon for a pair of games against Northern 3A West foes. The Buckaroos started the weekend on Friday, with a 19-1 win over Hug, in a game originally scheduled for Saturday.  Lowry was back at Churchill County High School on Saturday to play North Valleys and suffered an 11-3 loss. The Buckaroos are 3-5-1 on the season and 2-2 against the Northern 3A West.

LHS track and field team competes at Frosh/Soph Invite in Reno

As weather has played havoc with the Lowy High School track and field team in the early part of the season, the squad was able to compete at the High Desert Frosh/Soph Invite at McQueen High School on Friday, March 17.

Lowry softball rolls past Hug, North Valleys

The constant schedule changes and not knowing where you are going to play on a given day hit the Lowry High School softball team this past weekend. The Lady Bucks were scheduled to be in Reno on Friday and Saturday but those plans were scrapped and the games were moved to Churchill County High School in Fallon. Lowry was originally set to play Hug on Saturday but that contest was moved to Friday and the Lady Bucks had little trouble with the Hawks, winning 20-2. 

Lowry swimmers compete in Aqua 5

The Lowry High School swim team was in Carson City on Saturday, March 11, for the Aqua 5.  Swimmers in the Aqua 5 compete in the 100-yard freestyle, 100-yard butterfly, 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke and 100-yardbackstroke.  The swimmer with the best combined time from the five events is the overall winner. There on no relays at the Aqua 5.

Serna swims at Spring Age Group Championships in Santa Clara, California

Battle Mountain’s Nevaeh Serna was in Santa Clara, Calif., from March 10-12 for the 2023 Spring Group Age Championships at George Haines International Swim Center.

2023 Kim’s Idaho Taekwondo Championship Tournament

On the morning of Saturday, March 11, Mr. Albert Dyk’s taekwondo students were ready to demonstrate their abilities after many days, weeks, and months of training.  These students were the only team representing Nevada in a tournament with other states including Oregon, Washington, Montana, and Idaho. Instructor Dyk was thrilled to speak on the advancement of his students.

PCHS basketball players win state and regional awards

Several PCHS athletes are the proud recipients of regional and State basketball awards. The athletes gathered at an awards ceremony in the high school auditorium last month.

PCHS track and field team grows by leaps and bounds

Wintry weather scrapped the PCHS track team's first meet of the year.  They practiced for three weeks and hoped to compete in Dayton on March 11. 

Lowry swimmers open season against Sparks

The Lowry High School swim team opened its season on Saturday, March 4, against Sparks in Fernley. The Sparks boys beat Lowry 56-40, but the Buckaroos brought home a handful of first-place finishes.

PCHS softball wins doubleheader against Smith Valley

The Pershing County softball team concluded its preseason by hosting Smith Valley for a doubleheader on Friday. Loyal fans cheered for the girls despite the cold and windy weather. 

PCHS baseball loses doubleheader to Smith Valley

The Pershing County High School baseball team hosted Smith Valley for a doubleheader on Friday.  The Mustangs closed their preseason with two losses 3-2 in the opener and 18-8 in the second game.  Pershing County came through with the hits. In the first game they outhit Smith Valley seven to three. Ayden Montes led with three hits in three at bats.
