The Battle Mountain High School baseball team made it exciting for its fans this past weekend with a sweep of North Tahoe, which included two walk-off wins.

After nearly a month off, Mother Nature greeted the Lowry High School boys golf team and the rest of the Northern 3A with cool and windy conditions at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course on Monday, April 17.

Lady Bucks sweep Spartans, tied for league lead

It wasn’t as easy as originally planned, but the Lowry High School softball team remained in the hunt for the Northern 3A East regular season championship and the top seed in the Northern 3A Regional tournament in May. Lowry hosted Spring Creek last week and needed to come from behind in two of the games.  The Lady Bucks beat the Spartans 3-2 on Thursday and 10-0 and 9-8 on Friday to improve to 8-1 in the Northern 3A East and 17-3 overall.

Pershing County softball slays Incline

A 19-game winning streak requires consistent hard work and a bit of luck.  The PCHS softball team works hard and turns luck into points on the board.

DeLong wins cutting, saddle bronc, tie-down roping at Spanish Springs rodeo

The Nevada High School Rodeo Association was back in action with the Spanish Springs rodeo over Easter weekend. Humboldt County’s Billy DeLong won three events over the weekend. He took home the top spot in boys cutting with 142 points, finish fourth in the first performance and second in the final performance.

Pettis, Aguirre win at Hug 9 Invite

The Lowry High School track and field team made its way to Reno this past Saturday for the Hug 9 Invite and the Buckaroos brought home some first-place finishes. Senior Sydnee Pettis claimed a pair of first-place finishes, including the 100-meter dash, where she ran a personal-best time of 12.77 seconds.  She set a personal best in the long jump as well to win with a leap of 16-8.25. In addition, Pettis placed fourth in the 200-meters in a season-best time of 27.38. Kianna Head earned a runner-up finish in the high jump, clearing the bar at 4-8 and the freshman was eighth in the triple jump at 30-6.50, a personal best.

Winnemucca Little League holds opening ceremonies

Winnemucca Little League kicked off its 2023 season with opening ceremonies this past Saturday. Winnemucca will host the 10-11-12-year-old state tournament in July. Andrew Lindsey threw out the first pitch and Dana Brown sang the National Anthem.  

McDermitt competes in Idaho

The McDermitt High School track and field team was in Middleton, Idaho, this past Friday for the Middleton Invite. Loni Tobey finished 29th in the discus with a personal-best throw of 67 feet, 10 inches.

Ladies Golf Results —

The Winnemucca Ladies Golf Club held its first tournament of the year with the Pro’s Posse on Tuesday, April 4, at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course.

Tough week for Pershing County baseball

If you want to see how far the Pershing County High School baseball team has come, look at where they were last year.  They ended 2022 at 3-24, overall, and 1-17 in the 2A.  This year they stand at 10-10 overall and 7-6 in the league.

PCHS softball goes 3-0 against Yerington

The Pershing County High School softball team stretched their winning streak to 18 games this past week.  On Tuesday, April 11, they traveled to Yerington for the first game of a tripleheader. 

Battle Mountain girls track and field team wins Eureka Invitational

After a week off, the Battle Mountain high School track and field team was back in action at the Eureka Invitational on Friday afternoon.  The Lady Longhorns won the team title on the girls side with a handful of first-place finishes.

Lowry baseball drops two of three games to Fernley

After a week off in the schedule, the Lowry High School baseball team returned to the field this past weekend in Fernley.  The Buckaroos won the opening game of the series 10-6 on Friday, but dropped a doubleheader on Saturday, losing game one 7-6 and the finale 5-2. Lowry fell to 4-11-1 overall and 1-5 in the Northern 3A East.
