Lowry swimmers go up against Damonte Ranch

The Lowry High School swim team was in Reno on Friday, April 7, at Alf Sorenson Poll in Reno to take on Damonte Ranch in a dual. The Damonte Ranch boys beat the Buckaroos 51-39 and the Damonte Ranch girls team won 194-32. Tanner Hatch turned in a pair of victories for the Buckaroo boys, winning the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 26.55 seconds and the 100-yard freestyle at 1:01.48.

Lowry knocks off Reno, sweeps Fernley

After dropping back-to-back games, the Lowry High School softball team got back on the winning track with four wins last week. The Lady Bucks hosted Reno on Tuesday, April 11, in a non-conference match-up and beat the Huskies 6-1.

McDermitt High School to induct inaugural Hall of Fame Class

McDermitt High School be inducting its inaugural class into the Hall of Fame on Saturday, April 29, at the McDermitt Community Hall at 6 p.m. Doors open at 5 p.m.

Pershing County baseball team dunks North Tahoe

The Pershing County High School baseball team headed to spring break with two more league wins to their credit.  The Mustangs hosted North Tahoe for a doubleheader on Saturday. Lovelock won both games (21-8, 4-1). The Mustangs improved to third in the 2A, behind West Wendover (8-1) and Yerington (7-2). Lovelock now stands at 10-7, overall, and 7-3 in the 2A.

Aguirre, Jeronimo win at Galena Invite

Lowry High School’s Nomar Aguirre and Jesse Jeronimo pick up individual victories this past Saturday, as the Buckaroo track and field team traveled to Reno for the Galena Invitational. Aguirre led the way in the shot put with a toss of 47 feet and half an inch. Jeronimo set a personal best in the discus to win with a throw of 151-5. Shaun Gilliland set a season best mark in the pole vault at 11-6 to finish second, with teammates Kaid Sanchez fifth at 11-0 and Shane Gilliland (10-0) in eighth. 

Lowry softball loses non-league contest with Reno

The Lowry High School softball team stepped out on Northern 3A play and traveled to play Reno on Tuesday, April 4.  The Huskies knocked off the Lady Bucks 9-4, handing Lowry is second straight loss.

Lady Mustangs host Yerington on Saturday

The Pershing County High School softball team caught a break last Saturday when North Tahoe forfeited their doubleheader.  The girls showed up to watch the boys beat the Lakers instead. 

Six Lovelock athletes compete in Galena track meet in Reno

Last Saturday the PCHS track team traveled to Galena High School. Ashton Jimenez, Angelo Gibson, Luis Sanchez, Ramon Sanchez, Hayley Montes and Yasmin Acosta put in a long day.

McDermitt track and field travels to Idaho

The McDermitt High School track and field team made its way to Idaho last Thursday for the Dave Mangum Invite. Sophomore Loni Tobey turned in a sixth-place finish in the discus with a personal-best throw of 67 feet, 8 inches and the sophomore was 10th in the shot put at 23-8.5.

The first Stock Car race of the season at Winnemucca Raceway on Jungo Road is Friday and Saturday nights April 28-29.  The raceway is a beautiful facility with a 1/4 mile dirt oval track featuring four classes of race cars.  

Battle Mountain NNA swim team competes at NNA Age Group Open

The Battle Mountain NNA swim team was back in action on March 25-26 for the 2023 NNA Age Group Open.  Once again, the squad provided a number of good finishes. Nevaeh Serna brought home a number of first-place finishes on the weekend. 

Lowry swimmers dual South Tahoe

The Lowry High School swim team was in Carson City on Friday, March 31, to dual South Tahoe.  The Viking boys won 167-35 over the Buckaroos and the South Tahoe girls beat Lowry 177-27. Caden Montero brought home first place in the boys 200-yard individual medley with a time of 3:00.50 and he placed third in the 100-yard freestyle at 1:08.80.

Nevada High School Rodeo Association makes stop in Fernley

The Nevada High School Rodeo Association made a top in in Fernley at the end of March, with local cowboys and cowgirls atop the standings once again. Battle Mountain’s Amelia Lancaster, Italy Jo Holman and Desi Coombs were first, second and fifth in the pole bending average.  Lancaster won the first performance with a time of 21.455 and won with an average time of 42.509. Holman had an average of 42.514 and Coombs at 49.216.

Battle Mountain drops three games to Yerington

The Battle Mountain High School baseball team was on its home field for Easter weekend to take on Yerington in Northern 2A play. After six straight wins to start league action, the Longhorns dropped all three games to the Lions to drop to 6-7 overall and 6-3 in the Northern 2A. Yerington won the series opener on Friday 2-0 and swept Saturday’s doubleheader 3-1 and 10-4.

Battle Mountain sweeps Yerington to remain undefeated in league play

The Battle Mountain High School softball team remained red hot in the Northern 2A, with three wins at home this past Easter weekend over Yerington. The Lady Longhorns improved to 9-0 in the Northern 2A and 10-1 overall, with the only loss coming to Sparks of the Northern 3A. In Friday’s opener, Battle Mountain built a 5-0 lead through three innings but had to hold on in the end.
