Battle Mountain softball drops three to Oasis Academy

After having a week off, the Battle Mountain High School softball team was back home to host Oasis Academy in a three-game, Northern 2A series. The Bighorns played in the 1A state tournament last year and moved up to the 2A this past fall after realignment.

Elko sweeps Lowry baseball in Northern 3A East opening series

The Lowry High School baseball made its way to Elko this past weekend to begin Northern 3A East with the rival Indians. Elko swept a doubleheader 7-6 and 12-1 on Friday and completed the series sweep on Saturday with an 8-4 victory. Lowry dropped to 0-3 in league play and 5-9 overall.

Lady Bucks drop two of three in Elko to start league play

It was an up and down weekend for the Lowry High School softball team, which opened Northern 3A East play in Elko. Lowry dropped the opening game of the series 3-1 on Friday afternoon but bounced back for a 17-8 win in the nightcap. The offense went away again on Saturday morning, with an 6-2 loss. The Lady Bucks dropped to 1-2 in the Northern 3A East and 7-5 overall. It is the first time Elko has taken a series from Lowry since 2010.

Bighorns pick up three wins over Longhorns

After starting the Northern 2A season on a high note with a series sweep of Silver Stage, the Battle Mountain High School baseball team was hoping to extend that momentum when it Oasis Academy this past Friday and Saturday.

It was a stellar Saturday for the Lowry High School track and field team at the Fallon Elks Invitational, as Brent Kenison won three events and Nomar Aguirre two.

LHS swimmers compete at Aqua 5 in Carson City

The Lowry High School swim team joined a number of area schools to compete in the Aqua 5 meet in Carson City on Saturday, March 16. The Aqua 5 is different from other meets, with no relays. Swimmers compete in the 100-yard freestyle, 100-yard butterfly, 50-yard free style, 100-yard breaststroke and the 100-yard backstroke.

Pershing County track and field team competes at Fallon Elks Invitational

Last Saturday, 21 PCHS athletes braved the wind to run, leap and throw to the best of their abilities. They competed in the Fallon Invitational, along with teams from over two dozen other schools.

Pershing County softball team sweeps three from Incline in 2A play

The Pershing County softball team continues to rack up the wins. Last Tuesday (March 19), they hosted Incline for the first game of a triple header. They beat the Highlanders 19-4 in three innings. Over the weekend, the Mustangs traveled to Damonte Ranch High School in Reno and won two games in three innings (21-2, 20-2).

Girls’ wrestling has become the fastest-growing high school sport in the country, sanctioned by a surging number of states and bolstered by a movement of medal-winning female wrestlers, parents and the male-dominated ranks of coaches and administrators who saw it as a necessity and a matter of equality.

Mustangs sweep three from Wolverines

The Pershing County High School softball team hosted West Wendover this past weekend. The first game, on Thursday afternoon, ended with a final score of 17-2, with the Mustangs ahead by a mile.

PCHS baseball drops three to West Wendover

The Pershing County High School baseball team hosted West Wendover this past week. On Tuesday, March 12, the Mustangs lost 14-0. This past Saturday, the Mustangs dropped the last two games of the series (10-0, 20-3).

LHS track and field team travels Reno, Dayton

The Lowry High School track and field team opened its season this past Friday, breaking up its teams to McQueen and Dayton. The Buckaroo underclassmen traveled to Reno and McQueen High School on Friday for the High Desert Frosh/Soph. Invite.

Pershing County track and field team grows by leaps and bounds

Last year, the Pershing County track and field team finished with only six athletes. This year's roster lists 16 boys and 12 girls. On Friday they excelled at the Dayton Dust Devil Invite.

As the Lowry High School baseball team was making its home debut this past Friday, the Buckaroos were looking for their first win over Truckee since 2016. The Wolverines are perennial power in the 3A and have dominated the series with the Buckaroos in the past few years.

Tobey wins shot put at Dust Devil Invitational

The McDermitt High School track and field team made its way to Dayton this past Friday for the Dust Devil Invitational. Senior Laeloni Tobey took home the top spot in the shot put with a throw of 28 feet, 2.75 inches and she finished third in the discus with a personal best throw of 69-6.
