33rd Annual Friends Community Christmas Fair to be held Saturday

LOVELOCK - The Community Christmas Fair sponsored by the Friends of the Library will be held Saturday, Dec. 3, at the Community Center, 820 6th St., Lovelock. The fair will be open from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. A wide variety of items can be found at the fair for gift giving and the home. For the weary shopper massages are available.

4-H Drama Club presents Christmas play 'Get Up, Get Out'

LOVELOCK - The 4-H Christmas play is becoming a Lovelock Christmas tradition, with this being the third year the drama club has treated the community to a holiday performance.

Friends of Library hosts Christmas Craft Fair

LOVELOCK - The Friends of the Library's Christmas Craft Fair was held Dec. 3. The annual fundraiser is in its 33rd year. Funds raised from the event go to needs at the Pershing County Library.

Selecting and caring for your cut Christmas tree

LOVELOCK - It is that time of year when many families bring the beauty and fragrance of a real Christmas tree into their homes as part of their holiday celebration. In so doing, they are following a tradition that dates to before Christianity and one that is not exclusive to any single religion. During Winter Solstice, early humans used evergreen boughs or entire trees in magical rites intended to secure protection of their homes and the return of vegetation in the spring. Romans decorated their homes with evergreens to celebrate Saturnalia, a winter festival honoring Saturnus, their god of agriculture. During the Middle Ages, Christians in Germany used an evergreen hung with red apples in their Christmas Eve "Adam and Eve's Day play," depicting the events in the Garden of Eden.

Lovelock woman killed in vehicle accident

RENO - A 56-year-old Lovelock woman was killed in a crash on Interstate 80 in Churchill County on Tuesday night, Dec. 6.

Carpenter's Equipment of Lovelock purchased by Renner Parts, service still available; new products and showroom added

LOVELOCK - Renner Equipment Company recently purchased Carpenter's Equipment Company of Lovelock.

Small Town Christmas -

Stores in the downtown area of Lovelock were busy on Saturday, Dec. 3, with the Small Town Christmas celebration.

Christmas concert -

The Lovelock Sign Club braved the cold weather Dec. 3 to present a Christmas concert in sign language after the Parade of Lights.

Toppled by heavy winds -

Winds blew hard in the Rye Patch area and throughout Pershing County last week. In Rye Patch a shed was reportedly blown down and Judy Mosby's motorcycle was blown over.

Radon programs offered Jan. 30 in Lovelock Results show 59 percent of Pershing County homes have elevated levels

LOVELOCK - January is National Radon Action Month, and the Nevada Radon Education Program of University of Nevada Cooperative Extension (UNCE) will offer a radon program on Monday, Jan. 30, at 6 p.m., at the Pershing County Community Center, 820 Sixth St., in Lovelock. Attendees can learn about the health risks of radon, how to test for it and how to fix radon problems. Free radon test kits will be offered to attendees.

Cookie bake-off winners announced

LOVELOCK - Christmas is the time of year when bakers bring out their signature cookies. This year a cookie bake off was sponsored by the Pershing County Senior Center and Eagle Picher Industries. Entries were taken to the Christmas Fair to be admired before they were judged. Winners were announced after the Parade of Light Dec. 3.

Burning Man making donations to Pershing community

SAN FRANCISCO - Black Rock City, LLC, the organization that hosts the annual Burning Man event, is pleased to announce that it is donating $65,750 in proceeds from ice sales at the 2011 event to local community service and art organizations in Pershing County.
