SAN FRANCISCO - Black Rock City, LLC, the organization that hosts the annual Burning Man event, is pleased to announce that it is donating $65,750 in proceeds from ice sales at the 2011 event to local community service and art organizations in Pershing County.

LOVELOCK - Nikki Talcott won the Shop Local for the Holidays promotion sponsored by the Lovelock/Pershing Chamber of Commerce. Talcott's name was picked from hundreds of entries on Dec. 19 in the chamber office by EP Minerals Site Operations Manager Corey Hartwig and chamber President Jennifer Hill. Talcott won $250 in Lovelock Loot.

LOVELOCK - The annual 4-H Awards and Recognition program and potluck dinner was held Nov. 10 at the Pershing County Community Center. Maggie Gallagher and Kalynne Mitchell served as Mistresses of Ceremony. The program recognizes the achievements of the youth and shows appreciation to the leaders and all the people in the community who made the 4-H program the success that it is.

LOVELOCK -This past week I received a call from a rancher near Austin who was looking for an economical, high-producing forage that could be used as a winter forage in his beef cattle production system. Although there are many alternative forages and small grains that can be rotated with alfalfa, or used in pastures such as: Teff, Wheat, Barley and traditional grass hays. A forage that is sometimes over looked, but common to Nevada and the Intermountain West is Basin wildrye (Elymus cinereus).
