LCC donates backpacks -

Prison officials donated the backpacks, along with some school supplies, to the Imlay Elementary School. The rest of the school supplies were donated to the Lovelock Elementary School. "We just try to give back to the community in any way that we can," Lt. Valaree Olivas said about why the LCC employees do their annual school supply drive. LCC was recently nominated for an American Red Cross Real Hero award for its community involvement. In addition to its annual Back-to-School drive, the prison holds quarterly blood drives, participates in the Relay for Life and supports a Peace Corps volunteer.

During the ordination Greene encouraged those present to read their bible. The ordination sermon was presented by Grass Valley Baptist Pastor John Thomas (right). He challenged Greene to stay faithful to the calling of God and Jesus in his life and to learn from the mistakes the future holds. "God will touch the hearts of the people he wants to touch, even with the worst sermon you've ever preached," Thomas told Greene. Thomas also challenged the congregation to pray for and encourage their new pastor. The service was followed by a pot luck dinner and time of fellowship.

Fire restrictions lifted in northeastern Nevada

ELKO - On Sept. 6, fire restrictions were lifted on lands administered by Jarbidge, Mountain City, and Ruby Mountains Ranger Districts of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest; all BLM public lands in northeastern Nevada; Nevada Division of Forestry Protection Districts in northeastern Nevada; U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and Bureau of Indian Affairs administered lands.
