NDOW investigates health concerns in southern Nevada bighorn sheep

HENDERSON - The Nevada Department of Wildlife is worried about the health of desert bighorn sheep living in the River Mountains between the city of Henderson and Lake Mead.

BLM to host National Public Lands Day event on Sept. 21

WINNEMUCCA - The Bureau of Land Management, Winnemucca District, together with Nevada Outdoor School, Friends of the Black Rock/High Rock and Friends of Nevada Wilderness, will host a National Public Lands Day event on Sept. 21 at Soldier Meadows. Soldier Meadows is located within the Black Rock/High Rock National Conservation Area.

"The bookmobile comes to Imlay twice a month and many of our residents use it, so we thought it would be good to help at its fundraiser," Imlay Auxiliary Vice President Jessica Castillo said. The event raised a little of $6,600 for the bookmobile.

According to the Hummingbird Journey North website www.learner.org, the migration usually takes place during August and September. The Rufous Hummingbird is the type of hummingbird typically seen in our part of the country. This hummingbird recently visited a feeder in Imlay. These small birds travel can travel up to 100 miles per day. They winter in the southern coastal areas of California and in Mexico.
