NDF grants available for fuels reduction projects in Nevada

Projects must be implemented on state and/or private lands located in Nevada

CARSON CITY - The Nevada Division of Forestry is seeking applications for the State Fire Assistance grant program. About $1 million from the National Fire Plan will be available for projects statewide.

University archaeologist leads excavation at historic landmark in Carson City

Archaeology team collaborates with Native Americans on excavation and preservation of Stewart Indian School

RENO - The University of Nevada, Reno's Department of Anthropology, in partnership with the Nevada Indian Commission and the Washoe Tribal Historic Preservation Office, is conducting an excavation at the historic Stewart Indian School in Carson City. The Stewart facility is a 110-acre historic district that is home to more than 50 historic buildings.

$1.25 million in grants available for nonpoint source water pollution prevention projects

CARSON CITY - The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection has nearly $1.25 million dollars in federal funding available to provide grant assistance for projects that prevent or control nonpoint source water pollution, the leading cause of water quality impairment in Nevada.

Cooperative Extension, USDA to host agriculture workshop

RENO - University of Nevada Cooperative Extension and the U.S. Department of Agriculture will host a workshop in Reno on Aug. 20 to provide information on agricultural economic trends and financial assistance available to mitigate drought impacts on Nevada's agricultural producers.

Relay for Life raises money to fight cancer

The Lovelock Relay for Life celebration took place July 26 and raised $2,597 during the 24-hour event at Joe Yanni Field. Other fundraising efforts throughout the year brought in $7,633 prior to the July event for a total of $10,230, not including the money raised during the Frontier Days celebration.
