SPARKS - The Nevada Department of Agriculture's Animal Disease and Food Safety Laboratory has detected additional cases of West Nile virus in northern Nevada.

USDA announces ongoing efforts to assist ranchers impacted by drought

WASHINGTON - As drought conditions persist in certain regions throughout the country, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Farm Service Agency (FSA) announced temporary assistance to livestock producers through FSA's Conservation Reserve Program (CRP).

Irvin said he provided safety feedback on things he observed during the drill, which brought together numerous emergency agencies and first responders to deal with a simulated spill of hazardous material from a UP railcar. Irvin also participated in the decontamination corridor set up during the event. The disaster exercise was coordinated by Union Pacific, which provided a tanker car for the training. The scenario involved a simulated leak of anhydrous ammonia. Railroad officials offered training on how railroad cars work, how to shut off valves, who to contact, etc., in the event of a real emergency.

CARSON CITY - The Nevada Division of Forestry would like the public's help determining how widespread and severe the white satin moth, Leucoma salicis, infestation is in northern Nevada.

Gaming revenue down 4.8 percent in June

CARSON CITY (AP) - Nevada gambling revenues fell 4.8 percent in June compared with the same month a year earlier, largely due to the absence of special events that draw high rollers to the Las Vegas Strip and bettors being luckier than the house, state regulators reported.
