BLM Completes Wilderness Management Plan for 10 Wilderness Areas

The Bureau of Land Management Black Rock Field Office has completed the Wilderness Management Plan (WMP) and Final Environmental Assessment (EA) along with a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) and Decision Document for 10 designated wilderness areas in northwestern Nevada.

BLM Approves County Request for Gravel Pits

LOVELOCK - The Bureau of Land Management, Winnemucca District, Humboldt River Field Office will issue the Pershing County Road Department free-use permits for mineral materials for maintenance activities, and is streamlining the process for mineral material sales to members of the public.

NRCS Accepting Applications for Conservation Easements under ¬¬Farm and Ranch Lands Protection Program

Applications Due March 1, 2013

RENO, Dec. 21 -- The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is accepting applications for fiscal year 2013 funding for the Farm and Ranch Lands Protection Program (FRPP). The purpose of FRPP is to protect agricultural use and related conservation values of eligible land by limiting non-agricultural uses of the land with conservation easements.

Funds to help with emergency shelter and food

LOVELOCK - Pershing County was recently awarded a grant from the United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra (UWNNS) in the amount of $3,143 for emergency food and shelter. This is the ninth year the county has received the UWNNS grant.

Imlay Auxiliary gears up for a night of intrigue, fun - and murder

This year there will be foul play at the Deadwood Saloon

IMLAY - Well, hot diggity dog, the Imlay Auxiliary's next murder mystery dinner will take place on Feb. 16. It should prove to be a root'n toot'n good time. This is the third year for the Imlay Auxiliary's murder mystery dinner. Last year's dinner was "Murder at the Two Dues," a roaring 1920s Speakeasy. This year the group has decided to go a little further back in time to 1874 with "Murder at the Deadwood Saloon." Organizers plan to turn the Imlay Community Center into the Deadwood Saloon.

Cooking in Zambia

In Zambia, I am without television, electricity, or even running water at my hut. Although it can be tough without all of these amenities, I have immersed myself in a new culture and have learned a few lessons on home economics along the way. Washing laundry by hand, waxing my floors, and finding home-made remedies for bug removal are within my knowledge now. Even more, I've finally learned how to cook.
