Winnemucca resident Irma Lee Carvajal died Aug. 1, 2013, just four days after celebrating her 55th birthday at Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno, Nev., following a brief illness.

Jess Joseph Jaca passed away Aug. 16, 2013, in Elko, Nev. Jess was born in McDermitt, Nev., on July 8, 1928, to Joe and Vicenta (Bea) Jaca. He attended school in McDemitt and Jordan Valley, Ore., where he graduated in 1947. After graduation he returned to McDermitt, residing there until he and his wife moved to Battle Mountain, Nev., in 2011. Jess married Aurelia Naveran on Sept. 2, 1951. They had two daughters, Joyce and Jan.

Leslie L. Arruti

Leslie L. Arruti, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away unexpectedly on Aug. 13, 2013. Leslie was born on Oct. 30, 1947, in Albuquerque, N.M., to Carroll and Phyllis Lee. She was raised in Santa Fe where she lived until she became an airline hostess and moved to Dallas, Texas, where she met her husband of 45 years while he was attending helicopter flight training in Mineral Wells, Texas. They were stationed in numerous states and Germany and upon retirement from the military located to Albuquerque, where they lived for the last 18 years.

Vernon Andrae, 79, passed away Aug. 3, 2013, at his home in Peeples Valley, Ariz. Vernon was born Feb. 19, 1934, in Mountain City, Nev., to Dan Andrae and Clara Morse Andrae. Vernon is survived by his daughter Jaqueline and his sons Bryson, Dan and Frank Andrae.

Margaret Lois Mauldin, 85, died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, at the Battle Mountain General Hospital after a long illness.

Ronald 'Red' McKinnon

Ronald "Red" McKinnon passed away Aug. 17, 2013 after a lengthy illness. Red was born on June 8, 1956 in Wallace, Idaho to Richmond and Peggy (McCarver) McKinnon. Red is survived by his wife, Kathy, children, Sarah McKinnon, Courtney McKinnon, Jason McKinnon, Aaron McKinnon, Teckla (Joe) Janacaro, Brice (Jess) Reed; nine grandchildren; and sisters & brothers.During his illness, Red fought hard to regain his health in hopes of being able to do what he loved best: take road trips with his wife and return to the mining industry to work. Red's knowledge and experience working in the mining industry was vast. His work experiences spanned from Nevada, Idaho, New York, Connecticut, California, and Colorado to Alaska. Through his love and dedication to the industry, Red became a leader and was respected by his peers. He made many lifelong friends through his work, most of whom have become more like family. Red will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Lillyanna Renee Deming-Lopez, born June 21, 2013, returned quickly to the Angels from her birthplace at Humboldt General Hospital in Winnemucca, Nev. Lillyanna is survived by her parents David E. Deming and Heather Renee Lopez and her brother Jordan V. Lopez.We never had the chance to play, to laugh, to rock, to wiggle. We long to hold you, touch you now and listen to you giggle. She'll always be your mother. He'll always be your dad. You'll always be our child, the child that we had.
