I am writing in regards to the article "Metal Building generates controversy" in the Jan. 1, 2015, edition of the Lovelock Review-Miner. There are many issues that I feel need to be clarified.
My name is Keith Neville and I am writing this letter for two reasons, most importantly I would like to thank the wonderful people in and around Lovelock for helping me when I was in involved in a horrible scary experience on Interstate 80 on Jan. 2.
I want to mention a few points about the upcoming round-up of wild horses scheduled for Jan. 20.
Willing to learn new skills? Compassionate? Non-judgmental? Level-headed? Team oriented? Safety conscious? Able to perform in difficult situations? Love of the outdoors?
I read your opinion and the very few interspersed facts, followed by a ridiculous "possible solution".
I am writing this letter to clarify some of the points that Mr. Dan O'Connor included in his recent Letter to the Editor. The 'facts' as presented in that letter may lead readers to false pretenses.
Many of us probably already noticed how slow business is in Winnemucca. We feel that part of this problem could be solved if Winnemucca was to hold an event every month of the year instead of the summer months only.
We write this letter in response to a letter to the editor written by Dan O'Connor printed in the Jan. 8-14, 2015 edition of the Lovelock Review-Miner regarding the feral (wild) horse issue. There are a number of facts that seem to get lost in the controversy over these animals.First and foremost "mustangs" aren't an indigenous species to the United States much less the western states. They are feral animals that were introduced originally by Spanish explorers.
We want to thank the many people whose generosity and support made the Grass March a huge success. Special thanks goes to the Elko hotel for graciously donating use of their showroom and to our talented friends for making the evening so enjoyable. We are forever in your debt.
You know well, I'm sure, the cliché, "A picture paints a thousand words." Well, just look at the picture on the front page of the Lovelock Review-Miner in last week's edition. A mechanical monster (helicopter) swoops out of the sky to terrorize and traumatize a heard of beautiful wild and free horses. This illustrates my point exactly.
I was completely blown away by an article in the Feb. 17-19 edition of the Humboldt Sun. The headline notes: "Ex-UNR President Crowley heads firm approved for medical pot."
Dan, you have used your few words to paint a picture, of your opinion. Your "inbred scavengers" or "beautiful wild and free horses" are swooped on by "a mechanical monster ... to terrorize and traumatize" to be "disposed" of then to "ship them off to indefinite confinement equivalent to ... a concentration camp." Let's not leave out "animal cruelty" and "destroy our symbol of western freedom." Sadly, you don't mean ranchers.
