No injuries in truck fire -

COURTESY PHOTOSA semi-truck/trailer caught fire at 6:40 a.m. on Aug. 4 on I-80 eastbound near Battle Mountain, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol. The driver was hauling beer and there were no injuries. The truck was a total loss. The driver noticed his indicator lights were blinking, he pulled over, saw smoke and got out of the truck, according to NHP. Traffic was delayed for approximately 30 minutes while the Battle Mountain Volunteer Fire Department put out the fire. There were no injuries.

VA gives funds to battle homelessness

RENO - Secretary of Veterans Affairs Robert A. McDonald announced today the award of $1.9 million in homeless prevention grants to the Nevada counties of: Reno, Carson City, Sparks, Hawthorne, and Fallon. The grants will serve approximately 740 homeless and at-risk veteran families as part of the Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program.

New Pathway to Work program trains people with disabilities for the workplace

LAS VEGAS - Nevada's Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation's (DETR) Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation (BVR), Opportunity Village, Desert Regional Center and Station Casinos have partnered to provide vocational training to a group of people with disabilities to help them develop job skills that will allow them to obtain competitive employment.
