Fifth grade students read 8.5 million words and 6th graders read a whopping 10 million words. Combined that is an amazing 24.5 million words read by the students at ELES. The students celebrated with ice cream and a movie on June 2.

Fracking is a method of extracting oil and natural gas from deep underground. Some say it is safe and an asset to the U.S. economy while others argue it has the potential to contaminate ground water and harm communities by causing extensive health issues and decreasing property values.

The Battle Mountain Chamber of Commerce will be hosting an afternoon and evening of fun and festivities June 21 with a wine walk that will have the theme of Flip In and Out of Summer.
"Nevada's economy is constrained by limited private and state owned land." So reads the opening statement in the overview of Nevada Land Management Task Force's preliminary draft report. The overview report's comparison of the percentage of private and state land in each of five western states shows Nevada with by far the least at just 12.2 percent private land and 0.2 percent state land.
Eleanor Lemaire Elementary School held a talent show with 22 acts for grades fourth through sixth. There was a combination of singing, dancing, hula hooping and miscellaneous performances at the show.

Team members cycle an average of 75 miles a day and each cyclist has committed to raising at least $5,500. The team left San Francisco June 1 and will arrive in Wash., D.C., on Aug. 2.
