BATTLE MOUNTAIN - The Bureau of Land Management, Mount Lewis Field Office is seeking public comments on the Environmental Assessment for a proposed Copper Basin Exploration Project that would be located five miles south of Battle Mountain.
RENO - Nevada women over the age of 40 with no personal history of cancer are invited to take a brief survey to assess women's attitudes towards breast cancer screening and reasons why they may or may not have been screened.
BATTLE MOUNTAIN - A new conservation specialist will be working with the Lander County Conservation District to help prevent the listing of the sage grouse as an endangered species.
BATTLE MOUNTAIN - Lander County School Board members honored Battle Mountain native Sallie Snapp at their Sept. 25 school board meeting for being nominated as the Administrative Assistant of the Year for the Nevada Association of School Boards (NASB).

BATTLE MOUNTAIN - The Battle Mountain District, Mount Lewis Field Office published a Notice of Availability of a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) on the 3 Bars Ecosystem and Landscape Restoration Project in the Federal Register on Sept. 27, 2013. The 3 Bars Project includes numerous habitat enhancement and hazardous fuels reduction treatments within a 750,000-acre area of Eureka County, west and northwest of Eureka. The BLM is seeking public comments on the Draft EIS during a 45-day public comment period which will close on Nov. 12, 2013.
WINNEMUCCA -Emergency services personnel from across the state are invited to Winnemucca next month to complete their continuing education requirements.
BATTLE MOUNTAIN - Lander County Historical Society members and Battle Mountain Cookhouse Museum volunteers are hoping to see a full turnout at its first Homemade Craft Fair on Nov. 1 and 2 at the museum, said Salle Lemaire, who is in charge of the committee that organized the events.
BATTLE MOUNTAIN - A century ago, Battle Mountain eagerly accelerated into the automobile age, quickly recognizing the advantages that motorized vehicles would bring to the town's economy. Easy access to Battle Mountain's businesses offered a route to prosperity, so the Chamber of Commerce sponsored road construction projects and lobbied for the designation of an interstate route along the Humboldt River.
Battle Mountain High School celebrated Homecoming last week with a number of activities for the students. The week included powder puff football, he-man volleyball, class skits and dress up days. A parade featuring 16 floats took to the streets on Friday afternoon, starting at Etchevvery's Foodtown and concluding at Battle Mountain Junior High School. RENO - As Nevada's first sesquicentennial commemorative silver medallion reaches a near sell-out of the first mintage, additional mintages of the medallion have been approved for further pre-orders. The first production date has been set for Friday, Oct. 25, the observance of Nevada Day, at the Nevada State Museum in Carson City.
ELKO - The Nevada Departments of Transportation and Wildlife and the Nevada Highway Patrol are reminding motorists to drive safely in wildlife-prone areas with the upcoming fall animal migration.
BATTLE MOUNTAIN - The Battle Mountain Arts Presenters once again brought the Missoula Children's Theatre to Battle Mountain for the enjoyment and the experience that local students could have acting, singing and directing "Blackbeard the Pirate," with music and lyrics written by Michael McGill.
WINNEMUCCA - On Oct. 29, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is hosting a nationwide Scouting Open House Night to celebrate its 100 years of affiliation with the Boy Scouts.
