BLM to gather wild burros causing a nuisance southeast of Austin

BATTLE MOUNTAIN - The Battle Mountain District, Mount Lewis Field Office, plans to capture up to 30 burros that have been causing property damage in Big Smoky Valley southeast of Austin.

ELKO - On Sept. 6, 2013, fire restrictions were lifted on lands administered by Jarbidge, Mountain City, and Ruby Mountains Ranger Districts of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest; all BLM public lands in northeastern Nevada; Nevada Division of Forestry Protection Districts in northeastern Nevada; U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and Bureau of Indian Affairs administered lands.

TAMMY BURDEN • Special to the BugleA huge thunderstorm struck the Battle Mountain area the night of Sept. 4, bringing with it rain and lightning. It was reported to have washed out a few roads and caused power outages. This shot, taken in Battle Mountain by Tammy Burden, shows an amazing lightning display that was talked about around town the next day. Burden said it was one of the best lightning storms she has seen in the 17 years she has lived in Battle Mountain.

MIDAS - Friends of Midas has donated historic newspapers to two neighboring historical organizations: the Battle Mountain Cookhouse Museum and the Friends of Tuscarora and Independence Valley.

BLM to host National Public Lands Day event on Sept. 21

WINNEMUCCA - The Bureau of Land Management, Winnemucca District, together with Nevada Outdoor School, Friends of the Black Rock/High Rock and Friends of Nevada Wilderness, will host a National Public Lands Day event on Sept. 21 at Soldier Meadows. Soldier Meadows is located within the Black Rock/High Rock National Conservation Area.

LAS VEGAS - Motorists in the Silver State continue to experience lower gas prices and are now paying an average of $3.54 per gallon for unleaded regular, a decrease of 12 cents from a month ago.
