BLM and BIA urge public awareness of potential wildfire from target shooting

CARSON CITY - The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Carson City District and the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), Western Nevada Agency would like the community to be aware of the risk of wildfire when target shooting due to continued dry conditions, low precipitation and hot temperatures.

Locating in new facility will save about $305,000 a year, officials say

RENO - The Eastern Great Basin and Western Great Basin Coordination Centers will merge and be located in a new facility in Salt Lake City. The consolidation will save money and improve response time in getting resources to wildfires and other incidents.

AUSTIN - The final touches are being put on the Austin arsenic mitigation project, which is slated to wrap up at the end of this month. The system is projected to go online in October, said Marty Ugalde, engineer/project manager with Day Engineering, the company overseeing the entire project.

BLM to gather wild burros causing a nuisance southeast of Austin

BATTLE MOUNTAIN - The Battle Mountain District, Mount Lewis Field Office, plans to capture up to 30 burros that have been causing property damage in Big Smoky Valley southeast of Austin.

Northeastern Nevada Interagency Fire Management Team lifts fire restrictions

ELKO - On Sept. 6, 2013, fire restrictions were lifted on lands administered by Jarbidge, Mountain City, and Ruby Mountains Ranger Districts of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest; all BLM public lands in northeastern Nevada; Nevada Division of Forestry Protection Districts in northeastern Nevada; U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and Bureau of Indian Affairs administered lands.

It was reported to have washed out a few roads and caused power outages. This shot, taken in Battle Mountain by Tammy Burden, shows an amazing lightning display that was talked about around town the next day. Burden said it was one of the best lightning storms she has seen in the 17 years she has lived in Battle Mountain.
