WASHINGTON - Average basic premiums for Medicare prescription drug plans are projected to remain constant in 2013, Health and Human Services Secretary (HHS) Kathleen Sebelius announced. The average 2013 monthly premium for basic prescription drug coverage is expected to be $30. Average premiums for 2012 were projected to be $30 and ultimately averaged $29.67. At the same time, since the law was enacted, seniors and people with disabilities have saved $3.9 billion on prescription drugs as the Affordable Care Act began closing the "donut hole" coverage gap.
BATTLE MOUNTAIN - The Kingston Volunteer Fire Department annual picnic that was held at the Kingston Orchard and Lee Baker Park on Aug. 4 attracted a crowd of around 175 people, which was more than last year, said firefighter Shannon Thiss.

WASHINGTON - Agriculture Deputy Secretary Kathleen Merrigan recently announced a 9.6 percent increase in National Farmers Market Directory listings. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's directory, a database published online at farmersmarkets.usda.gov, identifies 7,864 farmers markets operating throughout the United States. The information collected in the directory is self-reported data provided voluntarily by farmers market managers through an annual outreach effort. Last year, USDA's directory listed 7,175 markets.
