BATTLE MOUNTAIN - A Request for Proposals (RFP) package for the new Lander County Courthouse/Administrative Building was approved unanimously by Lander County commissioners, with Chair Dean Bullock absent, at their April 26 meeting for the Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) project.

Austin man arrested for assault with a deadly weapon

BATTLE MOUNTAIN - An Austin man was arrested May 16 for assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly brandishing a firearm and pointing it at another patron of the Golden Club in Austin.

'Best of the best' show up to support Houston Lucas in his battle against cancer

BATTLE MOUNTAIN - On Tuesday evening, May 15, at 6 p.m. the Battle Mountain Civic Center had a line of guests that went out the front door waiting to get in and purchase their bingo tickets in support of 19-year-old local teen Houston Lucas, who is fighting large cell lymphoma. This is a type of cancer affecting the lymphatic system which is part of the immune system that works to fight against disease and infections.

BATTLE MOUNTAIN - Justice of the Peace candidate Ray Henry Williams III was arrested May 16 for the second time in three weeks. The latest arrest was for allegedly driving on a revoked driver's license for DUI.

One killed in glider crash near Kingston Plane 'bounced' said eyewitness

BATTLE MOUNTAIN - An aircraft crash that happened May 19 at around 3:40 p.m. near Kingston killed the pilot, Frank App, of Kingston and Truckee, said Lander County Sheriff Ron Unger.

Newmont supports Sober Senior Class of 2012 with donation

BATTLE MOUNTAIN - The Sober Senior Class of 2012 received a great show of support from Newmont Mining Corp. in the form of a check for $10,000.

Ring of fire -

Austin School supporters had a solar eclipse viewing event on May 20. Solar glasses sold out and there were more than 75 locals at Stokes Castle. They watched the moon travel between the sun and Earth, creating a "ring of fire."

'Journey of Hope' coming to Austin Cyclists raising funds, awareness for people with disabilities

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - On Sunday, June 10, a team of cyclists participating in the 25th Journey of Hope, presented by KRG Capital, will arrive in Austin as a stop on their 3,775-mile cycling event across the country to raise funds and awareness for people with disabilities.
