Local students named to GBC Dean's List

ELKO - Great Basin College President Lynn Mahlberg and Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Mike McFarlane have announced the Dean's List of Great Basin College students for the Fall 2011 semester. The Dean's List honors students with a 3.5 grade point average for the semester.

Battle Mountain General Hospital Long Term Care Unit holds 'Noon Year's Eve Party'

BATTLE MOUNTAIN - Battle Mountain General Hospital (BMGH) held its annual "Noon Year's Eve" celebration for the 12 residents currently housed in the Long Term Care Unit (LTCU) on Saturday, Dec. 31.

Connect Nevada to help Lander County become a Certified Broadband Community

BATTLE MOUNTAIN - Debbie Erdody, community technology advisor with Connect Nevada, came before Lander County commissioners at their Feb. 9 meeting to deliver a presentation on how the county can become a Certified Broadband Community. She presented information on local broadband use as well as maps of coverage areas.

BATTLE MOUNTAIN - The 2012 Battle Mountain Arts Presenters (BMAP) Annual Crab Feed was once again a sold-out affair. BMAP held their annual event at the Battle Mountain Civic Center on Feb. 11.

Lady passes

BATTLE MOUNTAIN - The Olsens' little dog, Lady Bell, died early Monday morning (Feb. 13). She was a beautiful white and ruby King Charles cavalier spaniel. Our daughter, Serenity, bought her with money she earned helping build a large patio one hot summer. Lady became her best buddy and protector.

Kids, parents, teachers enjoy Jump Rope for Heart Donations to be collected for the America Heart Association through March 8

BATTLE MOUNTAIN - There were 76 first graders who were joined by high school students, parents, teachers and staff at the Jump Rope for Heart event which was held Feb. 23 from 2 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. at the white gym at Battle Mountain Elementary Schools to raise money for the American Heart Association.

Donuts, Drinks and D.O.G.S (Dads Of Great Students) event held at Civic Center

BATTLE MOUNTAIN - More than 250 dads, stepdads, granddads, uncles, big brothers and K-8 students showed up for the third annual Donuts With Dads event held on Feb. 24.

BATTLE MOUNTAIN - Christ Lutheran Preschool's 9th annual February Family Fun Festival and Fundraiser culminated on Feb. 17 with an evening of festivities.

Public hearing to be held March 22 on mobile home ordinance

BATTLE MOUNTAIN - Lander County commissioners heard a proposal/introduction of Ordinance No. 2012-01, an ordinance amending Section 15.24.030(D) of the Lander County Code to allow a mobile home or manufactured home to be permanently installed in Lander County if it has been constructed or manufactured not more than 15 years prior to the date of application for a building or moving permit.
