BATTLE MOUNTAIN - There were 76 first graders who were joined by high school students, parents, teachers and staff at the Jump Rope for Heart event which was held Feb. 23 from 2 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. at the white gym at Battle Mountain Elementary Schools to raise money for the American Heart Association.

BATTLE MOUNTAIN - Lander County commissioners heard a proposal/introduction of Ordinance No. 2012-01, an ordinance amending Section 15.24.030(D) of the Lander County Code to allow a mobile home or manufactured home to be permanently installed in Lander County if it has been constructed or manufactured not more than 15 years prior to the date of application for a building or moving permit.

BATTLE MOUNTAIN - Lander County commissioners heard a proposal/introduction of an ordinance amending Section 17.08.100(A)(1) of the Lander County Code to change the requirement for relinquishing two acre feet of water rights for each additional parcel that is less than five acres in designated groundwater basins.

WASHINGTON - The Te-Moak Tribe of Western Shoshone-Battle Mountain Colony has been awarded a grant from the Department of Energy for a clean energy project.

The Gold Creek Neighborhood Rehab Project got underway Feb. 24 and consists of two concurrent projects - the replacement of water and sewer lines as well as new meter boxes and water meters and paving on top of a cement-treated base. The streets to be included in the projects are Gold Creek Avenue, Wild Horse Way, Indian Springs Court and Gold Court. Portions of the roads will have limited access at different times throughout the projects.
AUSTIN - The Austin and Tonopah Ranger Districts, Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, are requesting public input regarding the Ranger Districts' Motor Vehicle Use Maps to determine if there are any needed changes.
BATTLE MOUNTAIN - A March 5 sage grouse meeting was held in Battle Mountain. The meeting was a joint meeting with the Lander County Board of Commissioners and the Lander County Public Land Use Advisor Commission (PLUAC).
