ELKO - Nevada historian Doris Dwyer will present two programs at the California Trail Interpretive Center on Saturday, Nov. 17, and Sunday, Nov. 18. Both programs begin at 4 p.m. The free programs are sponsored by the Nevada Humanities on the Road and are suitable for all ages.

WINNEMUCCA - Voters propelled Dr. Soon Kim back to her seat on Humboldt General Hospital's board of trustees, and gave appointee Ed Hopfer his first full term on the board.Dr. Kim won the race for Seat C on the board with 2,862 votes, or 53.05 percent, while challenger Bill Hammargren trailed with 2,533 votes, or 46.95 percent.Hopfer carried the race for Seat D with 3,031 votes, or 58.2 percent, compared to 2,177 votes, or 41.8 percent for challenger Jenny Setzer.
WINNEMUCCA - The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Winnemucca District, will be applying herbicide to several existing fuel breaks within the District as part of normal maintenance. The treatments are scheduled to begin in late November and will continue through January.

MICHAEL MICHAELSON • Special to the SunArt teacher Kim Rust commemorated her 20th year teaching at Winnemucca Junior High by creating something she could leave behind that was a part of her: a mosaic made out of ceramics, stained glass, and the Winnemucca skyline. Rust began working on the mosaic at the beginning of the school year and finished in late October. According to Rust, the mosaic is a combination of contemporary and traditional design. This is the largest mosaic Rust has completed so far and she said it was a great experience.
