WINNEMUCCA - The Winnemucca Soup Kitchen has added another serving time, and coordinator Char Smith is seeking volunteers to help. Lunch is now served each Wednesday promptly at noon in the basement of the Winnemucca United Methodist Church.

WINNEMUCCA - The Humboldt County Library is asking readers to "Dream Big and Read" this summer as the facility kicks off its 14th annual "Summer Reading Program."

Tractor-trailer topples on I-80

A tractor-trailer overturned Tuesday afternoon at about 3:30 p.m. on Interstate 80 near the Pilot truck stop west of Winnemucca. The accident blocked both lanes of eastbound traffic on the interstate, forcing law enforcement to divert traffic off I-80 at the 173 exit and around the scene of the wreck. Sgt. Greg Johnson, with the Nevada Highway Patrol, said the driver drifted into the median and overcorrected, causing the rig to rotate clockwise in a broadside manner. It overturned and slid, coming to rest on the shoulder of the interstate. The truck was hauling produce. There were no injuries. The driver, Jarnail Singh, of Ceres, Calif., was cited for failure to maintain the travel lane, the NHP said.

Scholarship Night

Generous donation

The Humboldt Volunteer Hospice recently received a visit from Girl Scout Daisy Troop 360. The girls came with toys and coats to donate to the Frugal Flamingo Thrift Store as part of a toy/coat drive they were hosting through the middle of May with the help of Raley's and CB Brown. Humboldt Volunteer Hospice and the Frugal Flamingo Thrift Store would like to thank the girls and the community for their donations.

McVey named Nevada National Guard Soldier of the Year

Dan McVey was honored as the Nevada National Guard Soldier of the Year during a Memorial Day weekend ceremony at Run-A-Mucca outside Winners Hotel & Casino.

RENO - The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) presented its prestigious "Making a Difference" National Volunteer Awards at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. on May 24 to four individuals, three couples, one group and one BLM employee for outstanding volunteer service or volunteer leadership on BLM-managed lands.

WINNEMUCCA - The Advocates for Victims of Abuse (AVA) organization is looking for volunteers!Advocates are wanted in a variety of different areas, including crisis intervention, community awareness and education, program development and assistance, writing, resource and referral assistance and for the Court Appointed Special Advocates program.
