Two-vehicle accident -

A two-vehicle accident Tuesday at about 3:30 p.m. resulted in one arrest but no major injuries. According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, the driver of a Dodge Dakota pickup truck crossed the centerline on Westmoreland Road west of Airport Road and was struck by a semi-truck. The driver of the pickup truck, Mario Elias Cervantes, was arrested on suspicion of DUI and other charges, NHP Trooper Wylie Lund said. Cervantes was taken to Humboldt General Hospital for what were described as minor injuries. The driver of the semi-truck, who was from Montana, was not injured, the NHP said.

WINNEMUCCA - Professional sheep shearer John Balderson of Council, Idaho, will be in Winnemucca on June 9 to shear small flocks of sheep. Space and time reservations are now being taken.

Elko resident gets probation for selling methadone

WINNEMUCCA - An Elko woman who sold methadone to a confidential informant in Winnemucca last year was sentenced to probation Monday in Sixth District Court.Jennifer Benjamin, 43, pleaded guilty to sale of a controlled substance in March.Judge Michael Montero said Benjamin's case concerned him because she was bringing drugs into the community.

HGH employees honored for years of service

WINNEMUCCA - Earlier this month, nearly two dozen hospital employees were honored for nearly 200 years of dedicated service to Humboldt General Hospital.In all, 24 employees from a wide range of departments gathered in the hospital's Sonoma Conference Room on Thursday, May 17, to be honored for five, 10, 15, 20 and 25 years of service respectively.

WINNEMUCCA - Christian Lynn Bernal, 20, pleaded guilty to trafficking in a controlled substance at an arraignment Monday in Sixth District Court.

Man sentenced for battery on wife

WINNEMUCCA - Sixth District Judge Richard Wagner sentenced a local man to prison for breaking his wife's collarbone during a domestic dispute last November.Quintin Boyles, 36, was sentenced to 12 to 32 months on May 17.

GVES hosts 3rd annual Art Extravaganza Curriculum kits focus on styles of famous master artists

WINNEMUCCA - Grass Valley Elementary School first-grade teachers recently hosted their 3rd annual Art Extravaganza at the Winnemucca Convention Center.

'On the Radio' -

The Denio School captivated the community with their recent performance of "On the Radio," directed by Amie Breshear and Melanie Grecco. Breshear has volunteered her time teaching music to the students, and ended the school year with a musical performance. This was the first time the students have been involved with a musical, and they all enjoyed entertaining the audience. "On the Radio" featured seven songs from the 1920s through current times, including the Beatles, Elvis and Taylor Swift. Breshear has been a wonderful addition to Denio School, and the students had a great time learning about music this year.

Run-A-Mucca -

The 11th annual Run-A-Mucca Motorcycle Rally took place over the Memorial Day weekend. The event included live music, a poker run, special acts, Stunt Tours Bike Jumpers, a tattoo contest, the burning bike, a Harley-Davidson Road King motorcycle raffle, bike games and much more.
