Family understanding and open conversation are essential to making wise and practical decisions. Other decisions are overwhelming and frustrating and sometimes conflict arises.

The 23rd annual Winnemucca Ranch Hand Rodeo was held Feb. 29 - March 4, drawing teams from all over the West to vie for over $20,000 in prizes. Other events included a Ranch, Rope and Performance Horse Sale, Invitational Bull Sale, Stock Horse Competition, Western Trade Show and Kids' Dummy Roping and Stick Horse Barrels.
A total of 178 medals were awarded to Winnemucca Grammar School students during an assembly on Tuesday, Feb. 24. These medals are awarded for independent reading. Students read for 15 minutes to receive a step. They receive a medal for 100 steps (25 hours of independent reading time), 200 steps (50 hours) and 300 steps (75 hours). The ultimate goal is 400 steps, which is 100 hours of reading time, for each student of the school. The medals were presented by President Abraham Lincoln (Wally Earhart) and First Lady Mary Todd Lincoln (Regina Smith).
