County administator meet and greet was held Sunday night

Residents visited with applicants

Those in the community interested in seeing who wants to be Humboldt County Administrator when Bill Deist retires had the opportunity to meet the six final applicants on Sunday night, Nov. 9. Commissioners set that date to correspond with their interviews of the applicants on Monday, Nov. 10. They will consider those interviews this week and discuss during a special meeting on Friday, and hope to announce a decision at the end of that meeting.

Humboldt County's Regional Planning Commission will meet Thursday, Nov.13 at 5:30 p.m. for a busy agenda.

Special county commission meeting Friday, November 14

Humboldt County Commissioners will hold a special meeting Friday morning at 9 a.m. to discuss their impressions of the seven candidates for Humboldt County administrator they have met and interviewed. Before being selected to participate in Monday's interview process, the seven went through an extensive vetting process that included background checks, resume checks and reference checks.

I'm sure I'll see all of my readers at Alive Inside. Presentations are on Wednesday, Nov. 12 at 1 p.m. at Humboldt General Hospital, 7 p.m. at the Humboldt County Library, and Thursday, Nov. 13 at 10 a.m. at Pleasant Senior Center. Having previewed this inspiring film, I can say it speaks volumes about memory, cognition, and how we care for those with Alzheimer's and other dementias. While parts are sad, there is no way around that, it is also uplifting to observe individuals spring to life when they hear a favorite song from long ago. Remarkable.

Student exchange program looking for reps

ASSE International Student Exchange Programs is seeking individuals to serve as area representatives in your local community. ASSE provides academic year and semester exchange programs in the United States for high school students from around the world. Students are 15 to 18 years of age, have passed a series of academic and character requirements and are awaiting an opportunity to embark on their American adventure.

Great Basin will host MTC scholarship night on Nov. 13

What kind of a person would run on Interstate 80, with all the commercial vehicles speeding past at 75+ mph? You might think whoever would risk life and limb in such a way is a nut. But Christina Lee, 23, is dedicated and passionate, and is not nuts at all. She is running across America, from New York to San Francisco, to raise $100,000 for the Navy SEAL Foundation.

Town board, commissioners discuss future

UNIONVILLE - Mitzi Jones has been serving up steaming bowls of split pea soup at Unionville's Old Pioneer Garden Bed and Breakfast for over 30 years. On Wednesday, Nov. 14, her homemade recipe was savored by two groups striving to achieve an understanding about the future development of Unionville Park. Pershing County Commissioners Carol Shank and Pat Irwin met with 18 - 19 Unionville residents (and people from the surrounding area) to hammer out a plan. Apparently the soup (and good communication skills) worked their usual magic.
