There will eventually be 14 such units to be joined together to form the clinic building that will replace the doctor's office space currently located in the stand-alone medical office building behind the hospital, facing Haskell Street. Plans call for that building to be demolished to make way for hospital expansion to the edge of the property facing Haskell Street to provide memory care in Winnemucca, and remodel the current long-term care facility, Harmony Manor.

ELKO - The Bureau of Land Management, Forest Service, and Cedar Creek Clothing will be sponsoring a mountain biking trip along the border of Red Springs Wilderness Area on Nov. 15 for intermediate riders. The 18-mile loop is on gravel roads and covers a variety of conditions including flat, curvy, and rolling hills with plenty of nice scenery along the way.
Humboldt General Hospital's Board of Trustees will meet Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 5:30 p.m. in the Sarah Winnemucca Conference Room at the hospital. The agenda begins with medical staff and hospital department reports.
RENO - University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, in partnership with the Nevada Department of Agriculture, is offering a free workshop Nov. 13 to train people throughout the state how to properly handle and use pesticides. The workshop is meant for certified applicators and people who regularly handle pesticides as part of their jobs, such as farmers, ranchers, park employees and groundskeepers.
LAS VEGAS - The Nevada District Office of the U.S. Small Business Administration announced it is actively seeking nominations for its signature statewide 2015 Small Business Awards. The SBA will recognize honorees in the following categories at a premier event on May 21, 2015, at the Gold Coast Hotel/Casino, sponsored by Vegas PBS.

We've all heard "code blue" shouted in hospital dramas, and it usually means someone is in cardiac arrest. But what code do EMS professionals use when they, themselves, are in trouble? Code Green is nationwide campaign which aims to raise awareness of the high rates of mental health issues EMS and other first responders face.
WASHINGTON - The Internal Revenue Service announced cost-of-living adjustments affecting dollar limitations for pension plans and other retirement-related items for tax year 2015. Many of the pension plan limitations will change for 2015 because the increase in the cost-of-living index met the statutory thresholds that trigger their adjustment. However, other limitations will remain unchanged because the increase in the index did not meet the statutory thresholds that trigger their adjustment. Highlights include the following:
Local artisan Mike Howard of Howard's Metal Art stands next to a metal mule deer he created for the City of Winnemucca's intersection project at Bridge and Melarky Streets. Howard said it was awesome to have his work displayed in such a prominent location in town. He made four animal emblems which depict an elk, mule deer, big horn sheep and a covey of chukar. School kids from northern Nevada learned hands on about agriculture and its importance when Nevada Outdoor School teamed up with Lazy P Farm this October. The second annual farm field trip took place Oct. 9, 16 and 17. Winnemucca Grammar School, Battle Mountain Elementary, Kings River, and Grass Valley Elementary all attended this field trip.

Nevada's 150th birthday was celebrated at Sonoma Heights Elementary School by the fourth grade classes on Wednesday evening. The kids spent weeks preparing for the event by creating dioramas, posters, license plates and writing speeches, said Lauri Pickett, fourth grade teacher.
LOVELOCK - Two candidates vying for county sheriff said deep dissatisfaction with management at the sheriff's office motivated them to enter politics. No matter who wins the race for sheriff, however, both men said they are sticking around to help resolve issues impacting the quality of local law enforcement.
LOVELOCK - Pershing County District Attorney Jim Shirley and Lovelock attorney Todd Plimpton, in a race to replace long-time Sixth Judicial Court Judge Richard Wagner, were the last candidates to face the crowd during the Oct. 21 candidate forum scheduled just before the start of early voting.
LOVELOCK - Shortly before 80 early voters hit the polls on Oct. 21, the Pershing County Chamber of Commerce hosted a down-to-the-wire forum featuring candidates in both contested and uncontested local races.
