RENO - The Nevada State Demographer's Office at the University of Nevada, Reno has released its most recent population projections for Nevada and its individual counties, projecting through 2033.
Vicente Morga of East Fork Roofing applies a three-coat sealant to one of the belfry domes of St. Paul's Catholic Church. A new roof was installed last year, and Morga was completing the finishing touches last Tuesday afternoon.
Patricia Tindall, director of Pleasant Senior Center, announced that changes in the Senior Citizen bus program have begun, and will soon be more widely advertised. Tindall came to the Oct. 6 County Commission meeting to let the commissioners know the changes were imminent.
At about 9:15 Thursday morning, EMS crews responded to an accident in Harmony Canyon. A man, hunting in the canyon southeast of Winnemucca, rolled his ATV. The serious condition of the victim, and not the difficult terrain, required a Care Flight to a trauma center. HGH EMS officials said the man was in stable condition as of Friday morning. They could not provide further information.
When the Downtown Business Association paints the town red, they will have to use their own funds, said the city. At Tuesday's Winnemucca City Council meeting, the DBA asked for a donation from the city to help purchase paint for downtown businesses but got flower pots instead.

With five million people already diagnosed and many more suffering through the protracted stages, it is a disease that we all need to learn more about and then act diligently to educate and eventually destroy this monster. While "big" things are happening in large cities and research labs, I think the true work comes from dedicated folks like you who live in a town where people care about each other. One of the findings of the Nevada Task Force on Alzheimer's disease is that those who have been diagnosed with Alzheimer's and other dementias live longer and better when they are nurtured in communities like ours.
CARSON CITY - The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the Nevada Department of Corrections are hosting the third of four annual saddle-trained horse adoption events in Carson City on Saturday, Oct. 18 at the Northern Nevada Correctional Center (NNCC) located at 1721 Snyder Avenue.
The Winnemucca Boys & Girls Club/Recreation Complex is moving forward and has successfully raised the funds needed for Phase I of the project, which was to have the infrastructure in place for the complex. The board is now raising funds for Phase II of the project which is to bring the Boys & Girls Club and Recreation Center to the complex.
The Northern Nevada Arts Council is bringing The Reno Dance Company to town for a local Nutcracker production to be performed on Saturday, Nov. 15, at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. at Lowry High School. Tickets for the performance will be $20 each.The Reno Dance Company will be casting dance and non-dance parts to local children.
SAN FRANCISCO - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced $19.4 million in funding to invest in Nevada for statewide improvement in local water infrastructure and the reduction of water pollution.
