Khoury's welcomes new manager -

STEPHANIE MORTON • The Humboldt SunPictured above (left to right) are Khoury's Market Place new store manager Chris Diltz, owner Sam Khoury, and Associated Foods representative Al Leavitt. Diltz began his career in 1981 as a courtesy clerk and brings 31 years of retail grocery experience to Khoury's. Diltz said he would be focusing on improving customer service, and he looks forward to getting to know the community in Winnemucca. Khoury's has three stores, two in Spring Creek and the store located at 1041 Grass Valley Road.

Growth at the garden

On a beautiful and sunny fall day, the big scissors were brought out and a shiny red ribbon was strung across two posts of the newly built community garden open-air pavilion. Second statewide disabilities conference scheduled

The first ever statewide disabilities conference held March 2013 far exceeded initial expectations. The conference drew over 390 attendees - who enjoyed an outstanding program with over 48 sessions in tracks related to adult transition, advocacy, early childhood, education, community inclusion, healthcare, parents/caregiver/family, plus a special all day workshop on Achieving Quality Through Person-Centered Planning and Thinking. The conference received many positive evaluations and more than 90 percent of those responding indicated they were interested in attending a Nevada Disabilities Conference in the future. An overwhelming number of attendees asked, "When is the next one?"

Free flu shots available at walk-in clinic

Free flu shots will be available at a walk-in clinic in the West Hall of the Convention Center on Wednesday, Oct. 29 from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. The clinic is provided by the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health (DPBH).

Sonoma celebrates safety

On Thursday Oct. 9, the kindergarten classes at Sonoma Heights Elementary School were treated to a public safety lesson by local law enforcement, EMS, and BLM firefighters. The event included hugs from Smokey Bear, tours of the police cars, ambulance, and firetruck, as well as important lessons regarding seat-belt use, pedestrian safety, and 911. Humboldt General Hospital Ambulance and Rescue, Winnemucca Police Department, BLM Fire, and Nevada Highway Patrol participated and provided the young students with an exciting morning complete with lights and sirens.Photos by Madi Waldie, The Humboldt Sun
