Pedestrian safety a concern for all

Last year, 70 people were killed walking across Nevada's streets, and the number of pedestrian fatalities has increased every year since 2009. In 2009, 36 people were killed, 40 in 2010, 43 in 2011, and 59 in 2012.

Dutch Oven Cook-Off a tasty success

Saturday, Aug. 23, Nevada Outdoor School (NOS) hosted their 6th Annual Buckaroo Dutch Oven Cook-Off Fundraiser at Riverview Park.

Beef ambassador -

Paradise Valley's Ashley Buckingham recently returned from the 2015 National Beef Ambassador Competition in Denver, Colo., Sept. 26-27. Buckingham competed in the senior division with contestants ages 17-21, where the young women were judged in areas of consumer promotion, education and outreach strategy, media interview technique and issue response.

$31 million earmarked to help people make healthy choices

RICHMOND, Va. - Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced USDA's National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) is making up to $31.5 million in funding available to help participants in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) more easily afford healthy foods like fruits and vegetables. Secretary Vilsack made the announcement with Virginia First Lady Dorothy McAuliffe in Richmond.

Bogden, United States Attorney for Nevada, in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS), is pleased to announce that on Monday, Sept. 29, the U.S. Department of Justice awarded three grants totaling $2,125,000 to the North Las Vegas Police Department, the City of Elko, and the Elko County Sheriff's Office for the hiring of 17 law enforcement officers.
