WINNEMUCCA - On Saturday, Oct. 8, Winnemucca District Bureau of Land Management (BLM) employees along with 19 volunteers from the local community participated in the third annual "Community Cleanup" Day. The event was sponsored by the BLM and the local RESPECT group of Winnemucca. The objective of the event was to clean up trash on public land around the Bloody Shins Trailhead area. Approximately 11 tons of trash, concrete, and rubbish were removed from public lands in this area.

KINGS RIVER - Kings River Elementary School students were fortunate enough to be able to attend a field trip in Orovada on Sept. 27.
Winnemucca Police Department Officer Jeff Lynn was recently promoted to the rank of sergeant. Lynn was sworn into office by Mayor Di An Putnam at a ceremony at Winnemucca City Hall on Oct.17.
WINNEMUCCA - Howard Harris, 93, has to sometimes wonder, which has been more difficult in his life, surviving World War II or working with local officials.
FFA pig wrestling -The FFA pig wrestling event took place on Oct. 12 by the Lowry High School baseball field. The event helped raise money for FFA and their national competition in Indiana. The first-place team winner was Sexi-Mexi Plus One. Team members included Angie Herrera, Betsy Guerrero and Hana Etcheverry.
Alexander Torrey, 13, recently got 12 inches of his hair chopped off at L'Mane Salon by stylist Kollette Wadleigh. He plans to donate the foot-long ponytail to the charitable organization, Locks of Love. Torrey had been growing his hair out for about two years before the Oct. 11 cut.
The carved wooden Indians that for years in the mid 1970s found a home outside the Star Broiler in downtown Winnemucca have come in from the cold. Stored for years outside on the Humboldt Museum grounds, the statues have now found a home indoors, and the hope is that they will eventually be restored. Visit the Indians, meet the new Museum Director Dana Toth and learn about all the exciting changes at the museum during their Oktoberfest fundraiser set for Saturday at 6 p.m.

WINNEMUCCA - Can't take your kids Trick-or-Treating? Let Key Club of Lowry do it for you! They are offering their annual Trick-or-Treat Service Project. On Monday, Oct. 31, parents who are not able to take their children trick-or-treating can drop them off at the Lowry High School parking lot and Key Clubbers will walk them through the neighborhood safely.
