CARSON CITY - State Treasurer Kate Marshall recently announced that her office received more than 11,131 individual claims in June, far surpassing the previous high mark for the month of June by more than 4,600 claims after posting its annual Unclaimed Property listing in newspapers across the State during that month.

CARSON CITY - The Division of Public and Behavioral Health (DPBH) has a Nevada Health Statistics Portal, which is a web-based health statistics query system. The site is available to anyone seeking statistics on public health topics in Nevada and offers readily available and easily accessible information related to birth, death, and demographic statistics. A cancer statistics query is currently in the works and additional datasets and features will be added over time.

RENO - The Great Basin Landscape Conservation Cooperative (GBLCC) has $600,000 in funding available to support Science and Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) projects in 2014. Up to $450,000 is available for science projects and $150,000 for TEK projects. Applications are due July 29 by 1 p.m. Pacific Time.
CARSON CITY - The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP) has approximately $1 million dollars in federal funding available to provide grant assistance for projects that prevent or control nonpoint source water pollution, the leading cause of water quality impairment in Nevada.

Earlier this week, they received all their equipment and patrol cars. The new troopers will team up with Public Safety Officers for 16 weeks to better learn the job of a Nevada State Trooper. After that training, they will work on their own patrolling Nevada roadways and assisting the public. These troopers will be stationed in Elko, Battle Mountain, Winnemucca, and Lovelock. United Blood Services of Reno techcnicians will interview donors and draw the donated blood. Drive hours are noon to 6:30 p.m. July 23 and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 24.
CARSON CITY - While the number of statewide traffic deaths dropped slightly in the first half of 2014 compared to the same time last year, traffic fatalities in many rural Nevada counties saw a staggering increase, the Nevada Departments of Public Safety and Transportation report.
It's difficult to tell how many residents depend upon the county's mountain-top translators for their TV signal. But, from the number of calls and complaints when something goes wrong with the system, it's quickly apparent that there are still many without cable or satellite who rely on an off-air signal.
LOVELOCK - The BLM Winnemucca District is seeking "substantive" written public comments until July 27, 2014 as the agency starts assembling a Draft Environmental Impact Statement on Coeur Rochester, Inc.'s proposed expansion of its silver and gold heap leach mine about 24 road miles northeast of Lovelock.
