Man arrested on multiple firearm charges

Larry Gene Turnage, of Golconda, was arrested on May 21 after Humboldt County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to Golconda for a report of shots fired in the area of Fourth Street around 10:45 p.m.

State gas prices on decline, AAA survey says

LAS VEGAS - As the busy holiday travel season rapidly approaches, state motorists are finally starting to see a dip in prices at the pump. The average price of gas, which has been creeping up in the last month, is now beginning to decline since a week ago. Nevada's average price for a gallon of unleaded regular gasoline is $3.80, according to the AAA Nevada monthly gas survey.

HGH employees honored for years of service

Earlier this month, nearly two dozen hospital employees were honored for 295 years of combined service to Humboldt General Hospital.

Putnam said, "We really appreciate what you have done and your contributions to the city of Winnemucca." Howard is currently the city's only D-3 Certified Water Operator.

JESSICA POWELL • The Humboldt SunThe Humboldt County Museum got a makeover recently when a new sign was created and donated by CarWil (with generous help from engineer Mark Hughes) and installed by Michael Clay Corporation. The museum has been working on getting a sign since November.

Round-up to reduce excess animals in zero-herd area

In meetings last week with county officials and local ranchers, Bureau of Land Management officials promised a partial removal of the hundreds of wild horses wandering on public and private land near Oreana. The animals are competing with livestock and wildlife for food and water on a local cattleman's grazing allotment, an area out of bounds for mustangs according to the federal agency.

BLM opens Black Rock Station for summer season

WINNEMUCCA - The Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) Black Rock Station visitor contact center opened on last month for the 2014 season. The station is just west of Gerlach at the entrance to Black Rock Desert-High Rock Canyon Emigrant Trails National Conservation Area (NCA).

Cost of fighting wildfires projected to be more than amount available

WASHINGTON - According to a Congressionally-mandated report issued recently, the U.S. Forest Service and the Department of the Interior (DOI) are projected to spend over $470 million more than is available to fight wildfires this season. According to the report, the Forest Service and Interior may need to spend $1.8 billion fighting fires this year, while the agencies have only $1.4 billion available for firefighting.

Primary election candidates visit senior center

The Pleasant Senior Center held a cadidates forum on Tuesday and Wednesday, where candidates for Seat E of the Humboldt General Hospital Board and candidates for Department One, Sixth Judicial District Court Judge were able to field questions from the seniors in attendance. Center representative Charlie Beringer moderated the event.
