Twelve restaurants and caterers have committed to the Taste of Winnemucca planned for July 4.

Senior center hopes for emergency generator

Designation as an evacuation center may help with grants

The senior center was recently designated as an official evacuation center by the Local Emergency Planning Committee and hopes to use that designation to acquire funding for a back-up generator.

Ranch Hand Rodeo celebrates 25 years

This marks the 25th year for the Winnemucca Ranch Hand Rodeo, which will draw 30 four-man, one-woman teams from all over the West to vie for over $20,000 in prizes and enough bragging rights to last until the 2015 event.

Horses available for adoption

GBC announces Fall 2013 Dean's List

Great Basin College President Mark Curtis announced the Dean's List of Great Basin College students for the Fall 2013 semester. Each semester, students who are taking 12 credits or more, have declared a major, and who have attained a 3.50 to 4.0 grade-point average are honored by having the Dean's List distinction placed on their transcripts. Vice President for Academic Affairs Mike McFarlane and Vice President for Student Services Lynn Mahlberg send a personal congratulatory letter to each student. NDOT's highway bond rating raised

CARSON CITY - The Nevada Department of Transportation, in conjunction with the State Treasurer's Office, announced that Standard & Poor's Ratings Services has raised its ratings on Nevada's $441.4 million in highway revenue bonds from AA+ to AAA, the highest possible credit rating.

RENO - Following a national search and recruitment process, William "Bill" Payne has joined the University of Nevada, Reno as the new dean of the College of Agriculture, Biotechnology and Natural Resources.

LHS Winterfest royalty -

Lowry High School celebrated Winterfest last week with a number of activities throughout the week. Students dressed up each day with a different theme and a bonfire returned for the first time in years. Carly Bell and Wyatt Lester were crowned queen and king at halftime of the boys varsity basketball game between Lowry and Spring Creek on Friday night.
