Wildlife Commission sets 2014 big game seasons

RENO - When the Nevada State Board of Wildlife Commissioners met recently in Las Vegas, its members tackled an agenda that included the establishment of big game hunting seasons for 2014 into 2015, including several "antlerless elk management" hunts that allow for combination deer and cow elk tags, combination bull elk and cow elk tags, spike elk hunts and Nevada's fourth bear hunt. Also on the agenda was the removal of fishing tackle restrictions on certain spans of the Truckee River.

Commission meets Tuesday, February 18th

Humboldt County's commissioners will meet Tuesday, Feb. 18 rather than their usual Monday, due to the Presidents' Day holiday. The meeting agenda includes:

BLM seeks RAC nominees

RENO - The Bureau of Land Management is seeking public nominations for open positions on its 29 Resource Advisory Councils, which advise the BLM on public land issues. The BLM will consider nominations for 45 days.

Completion of the three-story hotel on the north end of town is a little behind schedule, but owner Kenny Nagra says they're getting close. The name of the new hotel describes a fundamental difference between it and other local hotel or motel accommodations.

Man hit by train identified

The man who was struck by a train on Sunday has been identified as Michael Leslie Stein, 57, of Winnemucca, according to the Winnemucca Police Department.

Nevada Division of Water Resources to hold Diamond Valley workshop in Eureka, Feb. 25

CARSON CITY - The Nevada state engineer will hold a public workshop to discuss a water management plan for the Diamond Valley Hydrographic Basin, which is located principally in Eureka County.
