Red Cross urges northern Nevadans to prepare for winter storms

INCLINE VILLAGE - Northern Nevada is prone to winter storms, and the northern Nevada Chapter of the American Red Cross urges residents to take steps now to stay safer when severe weather threatens.

Winnemucca BLM District begins rehab work for 2013 fires, continues work on 2012 fires

WINNEMUCCA - The Bureau of Land Management, Winnemucca District, has begun the planning process for Emergency Stabilization and Rehabilitation work for six fires that burned more than 22,000 acres across the district in 2013 and will continue rehabilitation from the 2012 fire season that burned more than 250,000 acres.

Santa pops in to DeLong Ford for a visit

LAS VEGAS - Nevada State Bank is launching a "Beautiful Nevada Essay Contest" and asking the state's students to answer, "What makes Nevada beautiful to you?"

CARSON CITY - The Nevada Division of Forestry (NDF) is seeking applications for the Volunteer Fire Assistance grant program. About $500,000 from the U.S. Forest Service State and Private Forestry program will be available for rural (local and volunteer) fire departments statewide.

Sonoma first graders enjoy a Thanksgiving feast

Students in Denise Barton's and Lori Mecklenberg's first grade class at Sonoma Heights Elementary School celebrated Thanksgiving in style! Dressed as pilgrims and Native Americans, they came together to eat a delicious "family style" meal with all the turkey fixings and had a pumpkin dessert as well. Special thanks to Uptown Market for donating the paper bags and to the parents who helped with event.
