LOVELOCK - Two weeks after a fire nearly destroyed the vacant La Belle's Lounge, the Nevada Department of Public Safety's Fire Investigation Unit is still studying the cause of the suspicious blaze, according to Pershing County Fire Chief Chuck Rasco.
RENO - The University of Nevada, Reno's Department of Anthropology, in partnership with the Nevada Indian Commission and the Washoe Tribal Historic Preservation Office, is conducting an excavation at the historic Stewart Indian School in Carson City, Nev. The Stewart facility is a 110-acre historic district that is home to more than 50 historic buildings.

WINNEMUCCA - The Nevada Outdoor School AmeriCorps program enrolled 20 AmeriCorps members during the 2012-13 grant year. These members served all across northern Nevada, from Reno to Wells. Host sites for the AmeriCorps members included Friends of Nevada Wilderness, Lander County School District, Humboldt Volunteer Hospice, Pleasant Senior Center, Humboldt County School District, Friends of Black Rock High Rock, Winnemucca Community Garden, Winnemucca Ministerial Association, Wells Family Resource Center and Nevada Outdoor School.

LOVELOCK - Exploratory drilling and the search for more gold resumed last week at the dormant Relief Canyon Mine northeast of Lovelock. The work could expand potential resources, reveal higher grades of gold ore and attract additional investment in the mine.
WINNEMUCCA - The Bureau of Land Management's Winnemucca District finished the Blue Wing Complex Emergency Wild Horse Gather on Aug. 4. A total of 203 wild horses were gathered from portions of the complex northwest of Lovelock.  
WINNEMUCCA - Recently, Gov. Brian Sandoval vetoed a bill that would allow the sale of raw milk. He cited "significant public health risks" as the reason for his veto.
AMARGOSA VALLEY, Nev. (AP) - A massive steer named Herman that was rescued from slaughter for $600 and became the unofficial mascot of rural Amargosa Valley has died after being diagnosed with cancer of the eye.
CARSON CITY (AP) - The last remnants of a fortune of coins found packed in ammunition boxes in the garage of a recluse who died last summer was auctioned Tuesday for more than $3.1 million - but not before bidders got assurances they could return any of the rare $20 gold pieces that some collectors spotted as counterfeit.
CARSON CITY - Online voters have identified six standout sites as the 2013 Nevada Treasures in the Discover Your Nevada contest, Nevada Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs Director Claudia Vecchio announced.
