Four new boat inspection stations to open Memorial Day weekend

RENO - With warmer weather and boaters ready to get on the water, the Nevada Division of State Parks, the Bureau of Reclamation and the Nevada Department of Wildlife are announcing the opening of four watercraft inspection and decontamination stations on Memorial Day weekend.

WINNEMUCCA - Michael Craig Deboer, of Utah, who was arrested May 13 after Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) troopers reportedly found 40.5 pounds of suspected marijuana in the vehicle, is scheduled for an arraignment in Justice Court in Winnemucca on June 24 at 9 a.m.

Silver State Chapter honors longtime members

Especially honored were Johann Lyon for 25 years, Patty and Norm Couturier for 40 years each, Dorothy Brinkoetter for 40 years and Margurite Powrie for 60 years. Margurite actually received her pin in Fallon at Myrtle Chapter's official visit, since that is her first chapter, but she also belongs to Silver State. When all of the others present were counted the chapter had more than 600 years of service among the members. Silver State Chapter celebrated its 119th birthday May 23. County's unemployment rate drops in April

CARSON CITY (AP) - Nevada's unemployment rate ticked down a notch in April to 9.6 percent as the state saw a gain of 5,600 nonfarm jobs from the month before, the Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation reported.

WINNEMUCCA - Obinna Agbasi, 41, of Las Vegas, was sentenced to 36 months probation in Sixth Judicial District Court for commission of a fraudulent act, a category B felony, related to a gaming violation in a local casino.

JESSICA POWELL • The Humboldt SunMayor Di An Putnam presented Winnemucca Police Department Animal Control Officer Connie Patterson a five-year service award at last Tuesday's city council meeting. Police Chief Eric Silva said that Patterson "does a great job and we hope to see her around for another five years." Patterson said that she appreciates the support she receives from not only the police chief and captain, but also from the city.
