On March 2, 2021, just after 4:00 a.m., 23-year-old Nicholas Silva from McDermitt, NV was arrested on felony eluding charges and is being held on charges from a homicide and subsequent robbery that occurred in Reno hours before his arrest.
Winnemucca resident Christian Gonzalez was ordered to carry out a maximum nearly six-year prison sentence last week after being convicted of felony driving under the influence of alcohol third offense in a November 2020 jury trial. The category B felony in Nevada carries a potential penalty of one to six years in Nevada State Prison and a maximum $5,000 fine. Gonzalez pleaded “not guilty” to the charge after being arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol third offense with two prior convictions in the past seven years on August 29, 2019, at the age of 22 prior to the jury trial.

Gisela Mendoza was recently given the chance to serve a term of two years probation while completing drug treatment programs to be able to avoid a potential prison sentence on a category E felony drug charge. Mendoza will need to complete a recommended inpatient drug treatment program and after that, immediately start and complete the 18-month Humboldt County Drug Court program to be able to withdraw her plea, avoiding a felony and potential prison sentence.
Javier Hernan Ruiz, age 29, was recently ordered to serve 90 days in jail, pay a $5,000 fine and complete 36 months of probation with a treatment program on a category B felony charge of assault with a deadly weapon.
