The Spring-like weather returned April 1st and 2nd which made for a couple of great days of golf for the Winnemucca Ladies Golf Club.

Stoker sets new Nevada softball home run record in road match-up against McQueen

How does a young lady in Winnemucca, one up herself without much fanfare. At the end of February, Lowry High School senior Savannah Stoker finished her career basketball career with 2,000 points, three consecutive state titles, two straight Nevada Player of the Year awards and is a three-time Northern 3A Player of the Year.

Thanks to ‘Miracle March,’ Nevada’s snowpack again above normal

An early spring storm over the Easter weekend helped push Nevada’s statewide snowpack levels to above normal for the second consecutive winter. As of April 1, all Nevada’s major hydrologic basins from the Lake Tahoe Basin in the west to the Humboldt Basin in the east were at or well above median peak snow water amounts.

County contracts with new water system operator to avoid fines

As a part of a much larger plan to mitigate high nitrate issues in the water in Grass Valley, the Humboldt County Board of Commissioners has moved forward with a plan to blend the water from two systems, the Star City Water System (attained by the County in 2019) and the Gold Country Water System (attained in 2023) that service Grass Valley residents, to lower the nitrate levels until a Wastewater Treatment Facility (WWTF) can be implemented.

Great Basin College closing Battle Mountain Center

BATTLE MOUNTAIN – Great Basin College, the leader in distance education for Nevada, continues its commitment to students and the communities it serves by meeting the evolving education needs of the region. After careful consideration and planning, Great Basin College has made the decision to close the Battle Mountain Center, located at 835 N 2nd St., as of July 2024.

PCHS drops three games to Yerington

It was a challenging week for the Pershing County Mustangs baseball team. The Mustangs came out on the losing end of a tripleheader against the Yerington Lions (4-0, 10-0, 11-0). They now stand ninth in the 2A at 0-10.

PCHS track shines at Battle Mountain Invite

Blink and you'll miss them. The Pershing County High School track and field team set 23 new personal records at the Battle Mountain Invitational last Friday.

Pershing County softball moves to 12-0 in Northern 2A

The Pershing County High School softball started their week with a 15-11 win against the visiting Yerington Lions. Over the weekend, Lovelock traveled to Yerington to finish the series with two more wins (20-12, 12-2).

Battle Mountain hosts annual track invitational

Mother Nature held off long enough to give the Battle Mountain track and field team a nice day to host its annual invitational on Friday at Tim Knight Field. Battle Mountain senior Andy Wall won the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 47.96 seconds and was second in the 110-meter hurdles.

Lady Longhorns get back on track with sweep of Incline

The Battle Mountain High School softball team got back on the winning track with a three-game sweep of Incline this past weekend in Battle Mountain. The Lady Longhorns outscored the Highlander 50-11 winning 15-5, 19-4 and 16-2. Battle Mountain improved to 5-4 overall and 5-4 in the Northern 2A.

Fresh off a victory over Fernley in the 3A state girls basketball title game, the Lowry High School softball team hosted the Vaqueros in three-game series in the Northern 3A East.
