Pershing County girls basketball team pick up two victories

Here’s to new beginnings. The Pershing County girls basketball team started league play this past week. On Tuesday, they hosted Sierra Lutheran. The Mustangs beat the Falcons with a final score of 56-18.

Ten PCHS wrestlers earn top places

Coach Mike Brooks ended up adding a sixth mat to the wrestling tournament at PCHS on Saturday. About 365 wrestlers made it to the meet, almost 100 more than the previous year (275).

Silent night at PCHS

Last Tuesday the PCHS boys basketball teams observed a Christmas tradition, with the fans remaining silent until the players scored their 10th point. They didn’t have to wait long. The return of Izayuh McGlothin and Luis Sanchez helped the varsity boys reach the goal midway through the first quarter.

Lowry brings home six individual champions, team title at Lovelock Mustangs Invitational

The Lowry High School wrestling team made the short trip to Lovelock on Saturday and came away with a dominating team victory at the Lovelock Mustangs Invitational. Lowry led the way with 213 points, followed by Churchill County (165), Fernley (156), Spanish Springs (147.5) and Reno (129).

Longhorns split Northern 2A openers with Bighorns, Lions

With the addition of two new schools to the Northern 2A, the schedule is a little busier this season for the Battle Mountain High School boys basketball team. The Longhorns began league play this past weekend, starting Friday in Fallon against Oasis Academy.

BMHS wrestlers compete at Wiley Dobbs Invitational

The Battle Mountain High School wrestling team was back in Idaho this past weekend at the Wiley Dobbs Invitational in Twin Falls. The tournament features some of the best teams in Idaho. The Longhorns tied for 19th as a team with 35 points out of 34 schools that competed. Buhl won the tournament with 243.5 points, followed by Jerome at 163.

Lady Bucks roll past Lakers, Panthers

After playing eight games in the first two weekends of the season, the Lowry High School girls basketball team had 10 days off to finally hit the practice floor. Lowry traveled to Nixon on Tuesday, Dec. 12, in battle of state champions. The Lady Bucks, the 3A state champs, used a 25-6 fourth-quarter run to beat Pyramid Lake, the 1A state champ, 56-41.

McClure signs with College of the Siskiyous to continue softball career

Even though she has not started her senior softball at Lowry High School, Maddison McClure knows where she will be headed to further her career. The senior singed a letter of intent to play at College of the Siskiyous in Weed, Calif. McClure is a catcher for the Lady Bucks.

Battle Mountain’s Serna competes at 33rd annual Winter Championships

Battle Mountain’s Nevaeh Serna traveled to Plantation, Fla., for the 33rd annual Winter Championships at the Plantation Aquatic Complex from Dec. 6-10.
