Pleasant Senior Center Menu for March 14-20

Lunches are served each weekday at noon and soup and croutons is served at 11 a.m. the Pleasant Senior Center, 1480 Lay Street. Lunches are open to the public. Suggested minimum donation is $4 for seniors age 60 and older. Visitors must be 16 years or older. Their meal is $10. Hot soup at croutons served daily with meal. Low-fat milk available daily. Safety of food after it has been served & taken from the center is the responsibility of the consumer.

Nevada reps oppose plan to move key postal operations from Reno to Sacramento

Nevada’s two Democratic senators and lone Republican member of Congress have joined the chorus of opposition to the United States Postal Service’s (USPS) plans to move its Reno mail processing operations to Sacramento, The Nevada Independent has learned. Under the proposal, the Reno facility — which is the hub for Northern Nevada mail — would no longer be responsible for processing mail and would instead become a center that would prepare already-processed mail for delivery. This means that if someone from Northern Nevada sends something in the mail, it would first go to Sacramento before reaching its destination.

Council accepts proposal for bike park pump track at recreation complex

Some mountain biking trails may only be suitable for more experienced riders, but a pump track — a circular, paved bike park with turns, berms, and other features — is designed to be used by anyone. At its regular meeting on March 5, the Winnemucca City Council approved a proposal for the design and construction of a pump track at the recreation complex in east Winnemucca, near Lowry High School.

Pershing County baseball goes 3-0 at home tournament

The PCHS baseball went 3-0 at the Pershing County tournament last weekend. The boys beat Sparks (11-1), Lowry JV (16-6) and Battle Mountain (18-3). Officials canceled the last day of the three-day tournament due to extreme weather.

Buckaroo baseball team opens season at Colorado River Invitational in Needles

While Northern Nevada was getting slammed by one of the biggest storms of the year, the Lowry High School baseball team was able to escape beforehand and head to Needles, Calif., to open the season. Under the direction of new head coach, Brent Riemersma, the Buckaroos went 1-4 over three days at the Colorado River Invitational.

The 2023 season ended with the Lowry High School softball team in the 3A state championship in Mesquite. The 2024 squad began its quest to get back to the title game with another trip down south, but his time a little more west and into California.

Suspect who shot at Nampa police office after committing violent felonies takes own life during apprehension in Humboldt County

On February 20, 2024 at approximately 4:15p.m., the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the Nampa Police Department regarding Anthony Erasmo Madrid Jr., 25 years of age, from Nampa, Idaho who had fled from Idaho Law Enforcement Agencies after being involved in four separate shooting incidents in Caldwell and Nampa, including shooting at a Nampa Police Officer who attempted to apprehend him.
