CARSON CITY — The Nevada Department of Transportation is preparing to keep state roads clear when winter snow flies by hiring temporary highway maintenance workers to help with snow plowing and anti-icing operations, among other duties. Applications are being accepted for temporary winter highway maintenance positions in Elko, Winnemucca, Battle Mountain, Eureka, Wells and other areas.
CARSON CITY – The Nevada Department of Transportation is looking ahead to the summer road construction season by accepting applications for paid summer internships. Applications are being accepted for approximately 70 internship positions in Carson City, Reno, Las Vegas, Elko, Ely, Tonopah and Winnemucca.

After a year of disarray, repairs to the bridge which carries West Winnemucca Boulevard over I-80 at exit 173 is anticipated to begin in the coming weeks, according to Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) officials. The repair requires special engineering which was originally approved back in the spring 2022, but due to the complex nature of the repairs needed — known as heat straightening — a specific type of engineer and sub-contractors are required in order to rehab the scraping and slight misalignment of the bottom of the bridge girder, which were reportedly difficult to secure.
Whether it be for Christmas or other shopping, doctors appointments, or perhaps school sports trips, many from Humboldt, Lander, and Pershing Counties travel to Reno, NV on Interstate 80 (I-80) on a regular basis. The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) is asking for comments from the public in their consideration of expanding the I-80 corridor from Vista Boulevard to USA Parkway. The comment period closes on Nov. 22 and Humboldt Economic Development Officer and Co-Director of the Nevada 95-80 Regional Development Authority Michelle Hammond-Allen explained that it is vital that the rural counties be involved in this process, even if the expansion is not right out the backdoor.
CARSON CITY, Nev. – The Nevada Department of Transportation is hosting an on-line survey to gather feedback on a statewide Transportation Emissions Reduction Program. With transportation comprising nearly 35 percent of all Nevada energy use, the strategy outlines state-specific opportunities to enhance transportation options while reducing transportation emissions as part of a balanced energy policy.
CARSON CITY — The Nevada Department of Transportation has announced that nearly $46 million in additional federal highway spending authority has been made available for Nevada state road and bridge projects through the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) August Redistribution process.
The Nevada Department of Transportation will begin a project Sept. 11 to replace an aging bridge on State Route 396/Upper Valley Road north of Lovelock.
