The University of Nevada launched its football season-ticket renewal process and announced a number of new initiatives to enhance the football gameday experience at Mackay Stadium beginning this fall. Season-ticketholders from 2019 should receive the 2021 Nevada Football Season Ticket Brochure via email with instructions on how to renew tickets, and doing so online is the most efficient method.

The Nevada High School Rodeo Association made its latest stop in Sparks on April 10-11 with the Spanish Springs High School Rodeo. Humboldt County’s Emma Garijo turned in a second-place finish in the barrel racing two-day average with a time of 36.025 seconds. She tied for second in the first go-around at 18.103 and was third in the second performance at 17.992. Garijo was third in pole bending with a combined time of 42.753. She was the runner-up in the second go-around with a time of 21.059. Garijo was 14th in the breakaway roping, with just one timed run. She had no time in the first go-around and stopped the clock at 4.41 in the second go-around to place ninth in that performance.
A group of 12 elite English, Spanish and Italian clubs dramatically split European soccer on Sunday by announcing the formation of a largely-closed Super League. They are leaving the existing UEFA-run Champions League structure despite warnings they could be kicked out of their domestic competitions and face legal action.
Dateline: Friday, April 16, 2021 — Bus driver Joan Henderson got up early to drive Pershing’s softball and baseball teams to Wolverine territory. The baseball team went 0-2 against West Wendover, losing 16-5 and 16-2 in five innings. Freshman softball player Taylor Garland described the weather. “It was back and forth; raining one minute, then there would be a little sunshine, then it was super windy, and it was like that all day pretty much,” she said.
“It was awesome,” said Jordan McKinney. “The girls were nervous, but once they stepped out on the field, they were naturals. We had some simple mistakes that we will clean up.”
The Pershing County High School soccer team played three games this past week. On Wednesday, April 7, they hosted Incline, losing 0-4. Friday, they beat visiting West Wendover (5-0). Finally, on Saturday, they lost to Whittell on the road 8-0.

The Pershing County volleyball team wrapped up its 2021 season this past week. On Tuesday, April.6, they hosted Coral Academy, beating them 25-13, 25-7 and 25-8. On Friday, April 9, Pershing stayed home to play Incline for senior night, coming out on top again 25-22, 25-22 and 25-20. The Mustangs won both games in three sets each.
The Pershing County Mustangs and Yerington Lions slugged it out in a close contest on Joe Yanni Field on Friday. The Mustangs were determined to send off 11 young men in a blaze of glory. It was senior night at PCHS and a season closer for both teams. The Lions and Mustangs have combined to win every 2A state title since 2010.
The Pershing County volleyball team’s week started with a “tough loss,” according to Monica Halverson. She referred to the Mustangs' defeat to Battle Mountain (19-25, 21-25, 24-26) in Longhorn Country on Tuesday. “We gave too many points to the Longhorns,” said the coach.
The Pershing County soccer team scored five goals between the two games they played this week. That brings them to 23 goals, so far, for the season. To score in soccer, the player must avoid ten defenders and get past the other team’s goalie. It takes teamwork and communication. That’s why, win or lose, each goal is a victory. It’s been a short but busy season for the Mustangs with back-to-back games at home and on the road.
The Pershing County Mustangs had four wins under their belts when they rolled into Wolverine Country on Friday. Friday’s game was West Wendover’s last chance to win or at least put some points on the board. Instead, the Mustangs won by a landslide (48-0). So far, the Mustangs have also beaten CASR (41-0), Incline (24-21), Silver Stage (42-6) and Battle Mountain (23-20).
On Saturday morning, a handful of fans sat in bleachers still decorated for last night’s football game. Others watched from their cars and trucks in the parking lot. All eyes were on the PCHS soccer team. The weather was warm and sunny, a relief from the wintry conditions they’ve seen this season.
The PCHS volleyball team traveled to Silver Springs last Tuesday and won three of four sets (25-21, 17-25, 25-15 and 25-22) against the Silver Stage Nighthawks.
