PCHS softball moves to 12-0

The Pershing County softball team continues to gain momentum at a critical point in the season.  This past Tuesday, April 5, they traveled to Tahoe City and blanked the Lakers,  15-0. North Tahoe decided to forfeit Saturday’s doubleheader in Lovelock. 

Pershing County baseball drops three to North Tahoe

The Pershing County Mustangs baseball team traveled to Tahoe City, Calif., on Tuesday, April 5.  They lost the first game of the tripleheader against the North Tahoe Lakers by a score of 16-1. This past Saturday they played the last two games in Lovelock, losing 14-2 and 24-1.

Play Ball!!

Dozens of major leaguers, minor leaguers and tee ballers marched from the courthouse to Emmett Cook Jr. Field on Saturday. Once there, they played their first baseball games of the year.

Pershing County track and field sent eight athletes to the Battle Mountain Invitational this past Friday, Apr. 1. Results were not available at press time but Matt and Cassidie Fuller remain pleased with the team’s progress.

PCHS baseball drops three games to West Wendover

The team may stumble, but teammates improve, moment by moment. Pershing County  baseball hosted the West Wendover Wolverines for a tripleheader this past weekend.

Many factors have contributed to the Pershing County High Scholl softball team’s 11-game winning streak. For example, it’s hard to lose when you’ve got a ‘vacuum on third base.’ 

Joel Bitonio, Austin Corbett and Home Means Nevada, Co., to host Youth Football Camp

Nevada football alumni and NFL stars, Joel Bitonio and Austin Corbett in collaboration with presenting sponsor, Home Means Nevada, Co., will be hosting a free football camp for kids between 3rd-8th grade from 2-4:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 23 at Mackay Stadium. Attendees will run through drills, play mini games, and learn fundamental football techniques.

Pershing County track team shines at Laker Invitational

A dozen track teams and hundreds of athletes met at Pyramid Lake High School last Thursday. Pershing County sent 10 competitors. They enjoyed milder weather than the first couple of meets where the cold and wind added obstacles. “The weather was fantastic,” said coach Matt Fuller.

Lady Mustangs improve to 6-0 in Northern 2A

Predictions can be dangerous. But the one Jordan McKinney made at the end of last softball season is coming true.  This past Saturday the Mustangs softball team hosted the Silver Stage Nighthawks for the last two games of a tripleheader.  It started in Silver Springs on Tuesday and came home on Saturday. 

Pershing County baseball team scores first win of season

Pershing County baseball scored its first win of the season on Saturday (6-5). It was the last of a 3-game series against the Silver Stage Nighthawks.   The week started on Tuesday with a 12-2 loss in Silver Springs. On Saturday, the Mustangs and Nighthawks played for a Lovelock crowd. The Mustangs lost the first game 16-1.

Duke-Carolina, Kansas-Nova set for epic Final Four showdowns

Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski refused to let his players ponder the possibility of facing North Carolina for the first time in the NCAA Tournament after the Blue Devils had punched their Final Four ticket with a win over Arkansas. They have no choice but to think about it now.

Hook em! Scottie Scheffler wins Match Play and goes to No. 1

Winning by now should be old hat for Scottie Scheffler. Sunday in the Dell Technologies Match Play was special for so many reasons, and the new No. 1 player in the world couldn’t hide it. Moments after Scheffler closed out Kevin Kisner on the 15th hole to win for the third time in five starts, the 25-year-old Texan was overcome by tears and hugs, from his wife to his parents and sisters and pretty much everyone who could get a piece of him at Austin Country Club. From a top junior in Dallas to four years as a Texas Longhorn to his time outside the ropes at the Match Play watching the world’s best, all Scheffler wanted to do was play alongside them.

Defending champion Stanford tops Texas 59-50 in Elite 8

Standing at the top of the ladder, Lexie Hull got the final snip with the scissors, drawing one of the loudest cheers of the night as she draped the net around her neck. Hull did all she could to get defending national champion Stanford back to her hometown for the Spokane Regional. Then, she became the catalyst for getting the Cardinal back to the women’s Final Four.

Right on track

It was the last day of winter and felt like it. The Pershing County track and field team competed in the Mark Smith “Smitty” track on Saturday. Sunday, was the first day of spring.

Pershing County baseball team drops three games to Incline

Incline posed a challenge to the Pershing County High School baseball team over the week. Pershing County hosted the Highlanders on Monday and lost 21-1 in a rough start to league play.
