Pershing County football team ready to tackle new season

Lovelock is ready for some Pershing County Mustang football. Eighteen athletes are about to launch the 2022-2023 season. In 2021, the boys finished 5-4, overall and 4-3 in the 2A Northern League. The Mustangs ranked fourth, behind Yerington, Battle Mountain and Incline. This past Saturday, the varsity and JV teams scrimmaged in Battle Mountain.

PCHS soccer looks forward to new season

The Pershing County soccer team hopes to build on their foundation and soar to new heights.  A roster was not available at press time but it’s a good bet most of the squad will return and they’ll pick up some freshmen. Team loyalty is a strength.

Pershing County volleyball team launches new season

The 2021 volleyball season is going to be a tough one to beat. However, 12 athletes are going to try their best.  Last season, the girls made it to the second round of the regional playoffs where they lost to Yerington in a high stakes match. Yerington progressed to the state competition where they lost 3-0 to the Meadows School, the 2021 state champions. The Mustangs finished third in the 2A Northern with a 11-4 league record, losing to Yerington and Incline twice.

Ducks Unlimited to host scramble on Aug. 20

Ducks Unlimited (DU) is a nonprofit group with the mission to conserve, restore, and manage wetlands and associated habitats for North America's waterfowl. 

PCHS athletics to hold dinner and auction

The Pershing County High School athletic department will be hosting its annual dinner and parking spot auction on Thursday, at 6 p.m. at the newly designed entrance to Pershing County High School.

We Ustacould wins 2022 Winners Inn Shootout

We Ustacould won the 2022 Winners Inn Shootout bowling tournament held Aug. 6-7 at Spare Time Bowl in Winnemucca.  The Winners Inn and Winnemucca Inn helped sponsor the tournament of 90 players, including 80 of them from out of town. Over $13,000 in prize money was awarded as 30 teams competed. 

Area high school teams start 2022 fall season

With summer coming to an end, despite the temperatures saying something different, the start of the school year is just around the corner and high school athletes are hitting the field and court this weekend.

Close counts in horseshoes

Bruce Medeiros hosted his twelfth horseshoe tournament at Frontier Days last weekend. The event takes place at Candy Beach campground. Dave Skoglie and Jesse Canchola won the doubles championship. Lee Houston won the singles.

Gold Medal Squared Volleyball Camp 2022

Twenty-four Lovelock volleyball players got a jump on the season last week. They attended Gold Medal Squared Volleyball Camp at the high school.

Frontier Days feats of strength

They say there's no need to use your turn signal in Lovelock. Everybody already knows where you're going. 

Peterson named to Bednarik Award Preseason Watch List

Two-time All-Mountain West defensive tackle Dom Peterson was named to the preseason watch list of the Chuck Bednarik Award. The Bednarik Award has been awarded to the College Player of the Year since 1994. 

Bicycle adventures on Elmhurst

Dozens of bicyclists age three through 10 raced down Elmhurst Avenue on Sunday morning.  The Lovelock Volunteer Fire Department sponsored its annual Frontier Days bicycle race.

It's a four-peat

Thick N Wild won their fourth consecutive softball title at McDougal Park on Thursday night.  They defeated their arch-rival, Wolf Pack, with a final score of 21-5. 

Lovelock hosts baseball camp

To the Pershing County Mustangs, teamwork is everything.  That's why coaches Jared Jensen and Jesse Canchola teamed up with the 4-H to bring Major League University Baseball Camp to Lovelock last weekend.
