Lovelock is ready for some Pershing County Mustang football. Eighteen athletes are about to launch the 2022-2023 season. In 2021, the boys finished 5-4, overall and 4-3 in the 2A Northern League. The Mustangs ranked fourth, behind Yerington, Battle Mountain and Incline. This past Saturday, the varsity and JV teams scrimmaged in Battle Mountain.
The Pershing County soccer team hopes to build on their foundation and soar to new heights. A roster was not available at press time but it’s a good bet most of the squad will return and they’ll pick up some freshmen. Team loyalty is a strength.
The 2021 volleyball season is going to be a tough one to beat. However, 12 athletes are going to try their best. Last season, the girls made it to the second round of the regional playoffs where they lost to Yerington in a high stakes match. Yerington progressed to the state competition where they lost 3-0 to the Meadows School, the 2021 state champions. The Mustangs finished third in the 2A Northern with a 11-4 league record, losing to Yerington and Incline twice.

The Pershing County High School athletic department will be hosting its annual dinner and parking spot auction on Thursday, at 6 p.m. at the newly designed entrance to Pershing County High School.
We Ustacould won the 2022 Winners Inn Shootout bowling tournament held Aug. 6-7 at Spare Time Bowl in Winnemucca. The Winners Inn and Winnemucca Inn helped sponsor the tournament of 90 players, including 80 of them from out of town. Over $13,000 in prize money was awarded as 30 teams competed.

Bruce Medeiros hosted his twelfth horseshoe tournament at Frontier Days last weekend. The event takes place at Candy Beach campground. Dave Skoglie and Jesse Canchola won the doubles championship. Lee Houston won the singles.
