Last Saturday, on a dazzling fall afternoon, the Pershing County Mustangs extended their nine-game winning streak. They beat Lincoln County 20-6, earning a shot at the 2A state title in Las Vegas. To make the win even sweeter it happened on the Mustangs' home field. It was the semifinal round of the NIAA State playoffs.
Friday night football wouldn’t be the same without the Pershing County High School spirit squad. They’re a tight knit group and it shows in their performance.

The Pershing County Mustangs volleyball team scored back-to-back wins this past week. On Wednesday (Oct. 25), they celebrated senior night and went 3-1 with the Incline Highlanders (25-22, 23-25, 26-24, 25-23). Seniors Anna Happy, Yasmine McKinney, KayLee Poffenroth and Taylor Garland couldn't have asked for a better send off from their families, friends and fans.
The Pershing County High School football team turned a slow start into a stampede this season, as they said farewell to its seniors — Brian Kauvaka, Bryce Gottschalk, Eddie Herrera, Aaron Kienbaum and Conner Fecht.
This past Friday night, the Pershing County High School football team hosted rival Battle Mountain for senior night. The important top spot in the Northern 2A was up for grabs as well and Pershing County won 34-7, to the delight of the home crowd to take control of the Northern 2A.
Last week, the Pershing County girls soccer team competed against some skilled and experienced teams, according to coach Kelly Brooks. On Tuesday, Oct. 10, the Mustangs hosted the Churchill County Greenwave (12-2) and lost 10-0.
If the road trip tired out the Pershing County High School football team, it did not show on the field. The Mustangs beat the West Wendover Wolverines 64-0 last Friday at WWHS.
When the Pershing County High School volleyball gets fired up, there is no stopping them. The Mustangs proved that last week when they played Yerington on the road and beat them in three sets 25-20, 25-18, 25-18. Unfortunately, the Mustangs lost momentum later in the week when they lost to the giant of the 2A — the North Tahoe Lakers (6-25, 23-25, 14-25). The Mustangs now stand at 11-9 overall and 9-5 in the 2A.
Within the past couple of weeks, Pershing County has blanked Yerington (50-0), North Tahoe (49-0) and now Dayton (36-0.) Lovelock hosted Dayton last Friday on Future Mustang night.
Last Thursday the Pershing County High School volleyball team traveled to Carson City to play Sierra Lutheran Falcons, a team new to the 2A. The Mustangs beat them in three sets 25-17, 25-19, 25-21 and improved to 9-8, overall, and 8-4 in the 2A Northern.
The Pershing County soccer team played Fernley and Dayton on the road last week and lost both games (7-0, 2-0). Now they're back in Lovelock.
The Pershing County volleyball team won both of their homecoming games last week. On Wednesday, Sept. 27, they beat Oasis Academy in three sets (25-15, 25-14, 25-10). On Saturday, the Mustangs defeated Silver Stage in four (25-20, 24-26, 25-18, 25-15).
The Pershing County girls soccer team played two homecoming games last week. On Friday they lost 2-1 against the White Pine Ladycats. They returned on Saturday to blank West Wendover 7-0. It was Pershing's second game against the Ladycats. The first time, they lost 3-0 on their field in Ely.
