The Battle Mountain boys golf team traveled to Jackpot for the Northern 2A Regional Tournament, which included the Elko and Spring Creek JV teams. The Longhorns’ Max Villanueva took first place with a round of 92 and Brice Domagala claimed fourth place with a 96.
The Battle Mountain High School softball team was knocked out of the Northern 2A Regional Championships at Pershing County High School in Lovelock on Saturday with a 12-2 loss to Silver Stage. The Nighthawks went on to the championship game and lost 14-7 to Yerington. The Lady Longhorns, who graduate four players in Ashlynn Newkirk, Reagan Buller, Jackie La Riva and Adriana Robles finished the year at 14-3.
The Battle Mountain High School baseball team saw its season come to an end with a 13-7 semifinal loss to West Wendover in the Northern 2A Regional Championships on Saturday afternoon at Pershing County High School in Lovelock. The Longhorns reached the semifinals, after beating host Pershing County 15-0 on Friday afternoon. Yerington went on to beat West Wendover 11-0 for the regional title.
The Battle Mountain High School track and field team will host the Northern 2A Regional Championships on Saturday, beginning at noon with the field events.
The Battle Mountain High School baseball team closed out the regular season with a doubleheader loss at Yerington this past Saturday. The Lions won the opener 11-0 and the nightcap 9-0, as the Longhorns finished the regular season in third place in the Northern 2A at 6-6 and 7-7 overall. In the second game, the Lions scored single runs in the second, third and fourth innings to lead 3-0. Yerington broke the game open with six runs in the fifth inning.
The Battle Mountain High School softball team rounded out the regular season this past Saturday with a split of a doubleheader against Yerington. Yerington won the first game 4-3 and Battle Mountain grabbed the nightcap 9-4.
The Battle Mountain High School track and field team hosted Pershing County and West Wendover, along with a handful of 1A schools this past Friday. Jolena Ayers ran the 100-meter dash in 13.75 seconds, while stopping the clock at 2:44 in the 800 meters and 6:16 in the 1,600 meters. In addition, the sophomore had a leap of 30-0 in the triple jump.
Battle Mountain High School senior Addi Slaybaugh was named the Northern 2A Offensive Player of the Year for the 2021 shortened spring season. Teammates Kathy Lopez, Lolly Argueta and Marena Fuller were named to the all-league, first team, which is chosen by the league’s coaches. Brynnlee Freeman was a second-team selection and Shea Jones was named to the honorable mention team.
The Northern 2A released its all-league football selections for the shortened six-week season this spring. Battle Mountain High School had a number of its players named to the first team.
The Battle Mountain High School softball team completed a sweep of Pershing County last week at home with a 7-3 victory, but dropped its first game of this season this past Saturday in a doubleheader split with Silver Stage. The Nighthawks won the first game 16-12, with the Lady Longhorns winning the nightcap 8-6.
The Battle Mountain High School finished up a season sweep of rival Pershing County on Tuesday, May 4, with a 10-1 victory and split a home doubleheader with Silver Stage, winning game one 8-2 and losing the nightcap 8-1. The Longhorns are now 6-4 in league play and 7-5 overall.
The Battle Mountain High School track and field team turned in a strong performance this past weekend at the Ward Coates Invitational that featured a number of first-place finishes.
The Lowry High School baseball faced a tough test this past week, playing a three-game series in four days against an undefeated Dayton squad. All three games were played in Dayton, as Lowry hosted a track meet on Saturday and the Dust Devils were not able to travel to Winnemucca on Friday.
It appears the 3A East boys championship this year is a toss up between the six schools every week. After winning in Fallon, the Lowry High School boys placed fourth this past Thursday at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in Stateline. Beautiful weather greeted the golfers on one of the best courses in Nevada.
