Battle Mountain wrestlers claim Northern 2A Regional title

If you heard this one before, here you go again — the Battle Mountain High School wrestling team is the Northern 2A champions once again. It was a little closer than in the past, as Battle Mountain won with 180.5 points, followed by Yerington (167), Pershing County (149), Coral Academy (113.5) and Eureka (84).

Battle Mountain boys end regular season on a high note with wins over Incline, North Tahoe

Coaches usually say freshmen are not freshmen when you get this late in the season. The Battle Mountain High School boys basketball team came into this year with a very young team of four freshen and two sophomores. There are just three seniors on the squad.

Battle Mountain wins two of three games

The Battle Mountain High School boys basketball team is currently looking at the No. 4 or No. 5 seed in the upcoming Northern 2A Regional Championships. Battle Mountain was busy last week with three games, beginning at home on Tuesday, Jan. 30, against league-leading West Wendover. The Wolverines, who are 16-0 in league play, held on for a 57-49 win.

Lady Longhorns fall to Wolverines, Falcons beat Nighthawks in 2A play

The Battle Mountain High School girls basketball team picked up one win in three games in Northern 2A play last week. Battle Mountain hosted West Wendover on Tuesday, Jan. 30, and lost 38-32 to the Wolverines. The Lady Longhorns made their final road trip of the season last weekend and routed Silver Stage 47-6.

BMHS wrestlers win Northern 2A duals

The Battle Mountain High School wrestling team continued its dominance in the Northern 2A, winning the league duals that concluded on Friday in Battle Mountain. Yerington finished second and Pershing County third. The Northern 2A Regional championship takes place Saturday in Lovelock. Battle Mountain's Dani Madalena was in Reno on Saturday for the girls Northern Regional Championship

BMHS boys pick up wins at Pershing County, Coral Academy

The Northern 2A boys basketball standings are a tale of the top three teams separating themselves, while three more are fighting for the fourth, fifth and sixth spots for the upcoming regional championships in West Wendover.

Lady Longhorns playoff chances take a hit

The postseason hopes for the Battle Mountain High School girls basketball team took a turn for the worse, with two road losses to Pershing County and Coral Academy.

Jimenez, George place third at Vaquero Classic

The Battle Mountain High School wrestling team wrapped up the regular season this past weekend, with an 11th-place finish at the Vaquero Classic in Fernley. Spanish Springs won the meet with 340 points, followed by Fernley (274), Douglas (260) and Lowry (210.50). Cruz Jimenez at 120 pounds and Ben George (285) each placed third for the Longhorns. Jimenez made his way to the championship semifinals, with pins against Carson’s Keona Basa Holokai, Sparks’ Gabriel Malagar and Spring Creek’s Trent Whitely.

Lady Longhorns split with Bighorns, Lions

The Battle Mountain High School girls basketball team knocked off Oasis Academy 57-16 on Friday and lost 50-25 to Yerington on Saturday to see its record go to 12-7 overall and 4-5 in the Northern 2A. After Oasis Academy tied the game at 2-2 early in the game, Battle Mountain went on a 17-2 run that extended into the second quarter to take a 19-4 lead.

BMHS boys split with Oasis Academy, Yerington

The Battle Mountain High School boys basketball team picked up a split of two Northern 2A games, making a return trip to its home floor. Battle Mountain got off to a rough start against Oasis Academy on Friday night, as the Bighorns led throughout the first half.

BMHS wrestlers dual Fernley, Lowry

Despite having this past weekend off, the Battle Mountain High School wrestling team was still able to get on the mat, with a pir of duals against Fernley and Lowry on Wednesday, Jan. 17, in Winnemucca. The Longhorns, who were not at full strength, lost 60-18 to Fernley and 51-21 to Lowry.

Serna swims at Blizzard Blast

The calendar may say January and snow is on the ground, but Battle Mountain NNA swimmer Nevaeh Serna is still at in the pool. The youngster competed in the Blizzard Blast this past weekend and recorded three best times.

Lady Longhorns split with Nighthawks, Falcons

The Battle Mountain High School girls basketball team split a pair of home games on Jan. 5 and Jan. 6, respectively, against Silver Stage and Sierra Lutheran. Battle Mountain cruised to a 38-10 win over Silver Stage on Friday, Jan. 5, but lost 33-33 to Sierra Lutheran on Saturday, Jan. 6.

Bundrock, George finish fourth at Kiwanis Invitational in Spring Creek

The Battle Mountain High School wrestling was able to make its way through the weather and road conditions to the Kiwanis Invitational this past weekend in Spring Creek. The Longhorns finished 12th in the team standings with 69 points. Elko narrowly defeated Buhl (Idaho) for the team title (238.5-237). Caldwell (224), Weiser (204) and Moapa Valley (157.5) completed the top five.

Incline knocks off Battle Mountain in a nailbiter

The Battle Mountain High School boys basketball team nearly pulled off the upset of the year in the Northern 2A, only to see Incline rally on its home floor for a 65-59 win in Lake Tahoe. The Highlanders came into the contest with just two losses to Spring Creek and Reno in non-conference play.
