The Battle Mountain High School girls soccer team dropped matches to White Pine and West Wendover this past weekend. Battle Mountain traveled to Ely on Friday and suffered a 5-0 loss to White Pine. The Ladycats netted two goals in the first half and added three more goals in the final 40 minutes.
Two of Nevada’s 2A oldest rivals were back on Tim Knight Field this past Friday in Battle Mountain. Yerington made the trip to Eastern Nevada and went back to Lyon County with a 42-12 win over Battle Mountain. The Lions scored the first 28 points of the night, dropping the Longhorns to 3-2 overall and 2-2 in the Northern 2A.
The Battle Mountain High School girls soccer team traveled to Lovelock on Tuesday, Sept. 28, to take on league rival Pershing County.
Carson Strong threw for 263 yards and a touchdown, Toa Taua rushed for 124 yards and two touchdowns and Nevada defeated Boise State 41-31 on Saturday. Nevada (4-1, 1-0), the pre-season favorite to win the Mountain West Conference's West division, snapped a six-game losing streak to the Broncos, dating back to 2010. Nevada last won in Boise in 1997. While Nevada coach Jay Norvell was all smiles after the game, he didn't seem surprised at the result. He was more ecstatic about the way his team won rather than breaking a long losing streak.
The Battle Mountain High School volleyball team traveled to West Wendover this past Friday and picked up a three-set victory, beating the Wolverines 25-21, 25-23 and 25-17 to improve to 3-2 in the Northern 2A. Battle Mountain is back on the road this weekend to play Silver Stage on Friday at 5 p.m. and Yerington on Saturday at noon.
After getting shutout on its first game of the season, the Battle Mountain High School football team returned the favor in a big way, shutting out Silver Stage 46-0 this past Saturday afternoon in Silver Springs. “This was a good test for us,” said BMHS coach Mitch Domagala. “We came off a hard loss last week and have a big game next week so for the kids to be focused on this game was a good sign of their focus.”
The Battle Mountain High School boys cross country team was in action twice this past week. Battle Mountain was in Incline on Wednesday, Sept. 28, for the Highlander Invitational and placed third with 59 points. Incline won the team title with 16 points and North Valleys was second at 22.
After starting the season with a pair of home victories, the Battle Mountain High School football team hit the road last Friday for a Northern 2A match-up with Incline. The Highlanders proved not be gracious hosts, knocking off the Longhorns 21-0, as Battle Mountain dropped to 2-1 on the season and 0-1 in league play.

It was one of those night where you figured it would be a long match between rivals Battle Mountain and Pershing County. The two schools did not disappoint the volleyball fans with a five-set thriller.
The Battle Mountain NNA swim team recently competed at the Molly Lahlum Memorial Freeze. Daxon Bakker placed first in the 8 and under 25-yard backstroke in a time of 22.02 seconds and he took the top spot in the 50-yard freestyle at 42.64. He also won the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 51.01. Bakker was second in the 100-yard freestyle at 1:40.04 and he placed fourth in the 50-yard breaststroke (1:04.61), a 1.07-second improvement.
The Battle Mountain High School girls golf team is quickly headed to the end of its season and finished second in last two tournaments in preparation for the Northern 2A East Regional Tournament
Will Howard pushed into the end zone on a 1-yard touchdown run to cap a 21-point fourth quarter, which sealed a 38-17 victory for Kansas State over Nevada on Saturday.

The Battle Mountain High School volleyball team returned to its home floor this past weekend to face off against a pair of Lyon County schools. Battle Mountain made easy work of Silver Stage on Friday night, beating the Nighthawks 25-4, 25-8 and 25-17.
